Hi
can anyone advise me before i start on the complexity of stripping the carbs and refurbing them ?
i noticed today while driving to work that the idle speed seems to be running very high about 1000 rpm and the car is pulling slightly when running at a constant speed.
just been out to the car in my lunchbreak
started it up fine idle speed is about 700 seemed fine (scratches head)
put the bonnet down and noticed a smell of petrol and found the right hand carb was pouring petrol out all over the hot engine not a great idea
seems to be coming out of the small pipe at the top and the uppermost gasket, if that makes sense
i should of said that its on the original strom`s
thanks

Whilst I have'nt done Stag carbs, I have rebuilt Strombergs before. They are fiddly, but it is a DIY job. Personally I would say get the kit from Burlen Fuel Services. They bought the rights to the Stromberg carburettors from Zenith and can supply everything.

Apologises to any other trader who is better, cheaper, more knowledgable.........

Apparently so but its expensive, take a look at this

I've heard the 4 barrel realy comes into its own until you
replace that horrible exhaust manifold with one that
can breath (i.e. tubular pipes).

I'm still saving my pennies.

Well not going for the conversion too many pennies
have a split diaphram and quite a bit of dirt in the carbs
not sure how it got there as i have a petrol filter fitted
anyhow have a kitchen full of bits and no idea how to put it back together
just working slowly through the manual
will let u know how i get on

Quick update
got it all back together but was struggling to balance them
so i reluctantly gave in and decided to give it to my local dealer vermont classics
what a waste of time
the car has come back in a worse state than i gave it to them
still not balanced one come in before the other and for some unexplainable reason they have altered the kick down cable to the  gearbox which now makes the car almost undrivable
i wish i hadnt bothered £60 down the drain
if anybody is thinking of using these people my advice is DONT
am giving another guy i met at the otley calssics show on sunday a go
will let u know how i get on

While on the subject does anyone know if its possible to balance
the carbs using vacum gauges.
I noticed there are some breather pipes just near the carbs, I might
give it a try if I can find my bike gauges.

yup I'm very tempted.

I've got a brand new Edelbrock lying around which I was
going to fit to my Scimitar.
I might whip the manifold off this winter and see how easy it is
to knock up a mount for it at work, I can then save my pennies
for some tubular exhaust headers.

I fitted an Edelweiss/Edelbrock  carb to my TR7V8 after fiddling around with a Holley. All I can say is, Wow.
The difference to the car was superb.  This was after it originally ran SU's with K&N filters and the correct jets so it ran very well before.
The amount of low down grunt in a high gear was brilliant. It would pull away in second gear like it was first and this was with a 3.08 axle fitted as well.
How I miss that car and the new owner keeps  telling me how wonderful it is which doesn't help.

Excuse my lack of knoledge but has anyone got a pic of a edlebrock ?
mine is running as sweet as a sweet thing in sweet land with a sugary tooth complaint
after i found someone who knew what they were doing
wow what a difference its like a different car and has never run so good

Take a look at

http://www.edelbrock.com/automotive_new/mc/carbs_acc/carbs_access_main.shtml

You can get the carbs for just over 200 quid

The tricky part is mounting it on the inlet manifold.
