StevieH
Just getting ready to reassemble engine and i decided i may as well remove sump clean out and fit new gasket. Am i regretting this now!!!!....finally got all the studs and bolts out and freed the sump but it won't come off, there is a small lip on the gear box housing preventing it...can any one suggest a simple fix or do i have to split bell housing from engine to make room. Thanks in advanceStevie
StagNL
Can't say I know what you are on about. Sump should come off easily, if not a simple lift off then tilt it - lifting the front first and pulling it off at an angle. I take it you don't refer to the two lips either side of the sump? Maybe a photo of the offending lip may help. Where is engine - in car or out?Julian
StevieH
Engine is in the car, there is a lip on the front of gearbox which means sump needs to slide forward to remove it by about 4cm. Unfortunately it only slides forward 3cm or so and hits front cross member......seems I may have to drop cross member to give enough clearance...can see no other way. StagNL
ROM (Repair Operation Manual) states that in order to remove the sump, one must first remove the steering rack and front cross member....Julian
