Nigel, That's a good start. It proves the motors are working and that the problem is with the contacts on the lights or the associated relays. Can you repeat the test, but this time wind the lights to the fully up position before reconnecting the supply.
  2. Inverness Motor Factors did a great job. Items obtained a day early and car back on road and running well.

See attached photo for motor testing procedure.

Sorry for delay, but will try to post tests to check motor operation in next couple of days - as you will have seen my car failed in Inverness so have been sorting it out. Cheers Howard
  5. Thanks guys. I have ordered the correct to new bits via the local land rover 4x4 for delivery by Wednesday - they recognised the distributor model and rotor number - so confident all will be sorted shortly. Have hired car for three days to keep enjoying the trip
  6. The problem is the distributor cap or rotor.
  7. Batch, it won't let me install as I don't have a Google pay account. Is there anyone local to Inverness?
  8. Just was pulling into Inverness travel lodge. Stopped car and it won't restart. It has fuel and spark to king lead but no spark at cylinders! Can't see any issues in the cap. Is there anyone around who could assist either with name of garage or in person. Thanks Howard

Nigel, not yet - there are more relays involved. We are on the NC 500 right now and so will get back to you tomorrow. Cheers Howard
  10. With the engine running I presume?

OK lets try the next check. If you have a multimeter this good, but a bulb holder & 10/15w bulb (with a fuse in line to protect any short circuits!) is even better. Unplug the connectors just behind the headlamp pods that have the blue / purple & blue / brown wires that feed to the headlamp motors. Connect one side of the bulb / multimeter to a suitable earth. With everything switched off, connect the multimeter / bulb wire to the blue/brown wire. You should then see +12v or the test bulb should light. Next connect the multimeter / bulb wire to the blue/purple wire & move the dashboard switch to the headlight on position. You should then see +12v or the test bulb should light when touching the the blue/purple wire. This will confirm if the problem is with the headlamp motors or the circuits feeding them. The Pektron unit is not being checked at this stage, but we can check it later on.

Always the first area to check is the headlamp earth connections under the bonnet. Next thing to check is do the lights come on, even if they don't pop up. Please check both of these and then we can investigate from there.

Nige Detailed explanation of how the Headlamp systems works shown on the attached drawings / last sheet. The Pektron will be found on the lower right of the 12 way fueboard. Its not clamped in place so may be behind the relays. Cheers Howard 1981 TR7 DHC Wiring Diagram Rev 7 03_2023.pdf
  14. Tom, Somewhere there is a bad circuit that is back feeding into the brake light circuit, Can you post photos showing the rear wiring of both bulb holder so I can give you some more pointers about how to test and check for the fault. Alternatively if you are on WhatApp I will PM you my phone number so we can have a video chat and look at the problem . Cheers Howard
  15. I have just looked at a 1500 wiring diagram and it shows that there are separate rear and brake light bulbs. Can you please confirm this is correct? My immediate suspicion is that there is a poor earth connection which could cause symptoms like you are experiencing. I suggest running a temporary earth wire from the rear light lampholder to the battery negative terminal & the measure the voltage across the brake light with the rear light turned on - it should be 0v! Cheers Howard
  16. Flywheel countdown begins! It's June, which means Flywheel is nearly back at Bicester Heritage! Expect track action from great race and road cars, historic planes flying in and out, a packed autojumble and Trade and Vintage Village, car displays, kids activities and much, much more. Gates open at 9am on both Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 June for a full day of fun until 6pm, with cars taking to the Experience & Demonstration Track from 10am. Bentley will showcase the 'Blower' from the 1930 24 Hours of Le Mans, one of its most important and most famous racers, and the manufacturer will dust off its record-breaking Continental GT from the Pikes Peak Hill Climb. A rare TWR R9R prototype based on the 1988 Le Mans-winning Jaguar will also feature in a packed line-up of cars that covers the whole breadth of automotive history. The Bristol Blenheim, like those that spent much of WW2 flying in and out of RAF Bicester, will headline the airfield, arriving along with a Spitfire, and the Great War Display Team will turn heads to the sky each day. There will be hundreds of classic car rarities on show right across the site, plus interactive art exhibitions, military vehicle rides and displays, funfair rides and so much more – don't miss it. Click here to book. Tickets start at £7.50.
  17. Matt, my current V8 S+S conversion does 27.5mpg which equates to 330 miles/tank, but my previous 2l 7 was much better than that....
  18. Brilliant idea 🙂 Questions:- Whats the phone app in the picture. How did you fix the ashtray to stop it tipping backward, as can be seen in the first picture?
  19. Gabor Is there a reason for re-posting query this as a new thread? Are looking for a Spitfire / Herald steel wheel or something else?
  20. Alternatively trade them in for TR7's which will complete the shortest alternative (380 miles) on one tank without topping up anywhere! 🤣🤣🤣
  21. Jos The route from the Statutory Halt passes Shrewsbury and there are a number of petrol stations there - Esso Shrewsbury is on the ring road and is shown as a 24 hour station so brim your tank there. Its about 150 miles from there to Lampter, (where the routes split) & there are unlikely to be any stations open anywhere near this part of our route. From Lampter the shortest route to Whitland is 37 miles, and according to Google there is a 24 hour filling station on that route at Windy Corner garage about 10 miles from Lampter. From Windy Corner you should also be able to get back the Cardigan & St David's routes via Pencadar B4459 / B4336 / A486 and rejoin the A465 at Horeb without losing to much time if you want to complete the longer route. There are multiple petrol stations in Lampter, Cardigan and Fishguard, but they may not open before 7am. I find Google Maps is a good way of checking the latest information - to check a particular station, when you click on it it will show you if its open now, but in most cases, besides the times there is a drop down arrow which allows you to see all the opening times every day. Hope this helps
  22. The C2C WhatsApp group has been established for the event and all lead drivers should have received messages. Can you please check your phones and let me know if you haven't received the message. Thanks Howard
  23. Take plenty of photos!
  24. The Speedo cable does pull off, but on some versions you have to squeeze the plastic end connector to release. A few minutes groping and squeezing should work, but if that fails have a look from above and try to see what's blocking it. As far as the heater console, there are two holes in the light bar through which you can access two cross head screws - slacken them off and the light bar can be slid towards the seats. It's a pain to get the light bar back on so good luck.
  25. Which bits did you have a problem with? Am sure we can share how we managed it.
