  1. Not hugely difficult to remove a Spit gearbox yourself, it comes out inside the car easily enough. As regards reconditioning, Mike Papworth is in Coventry, Tony Lindsey Dean in Suffolk, plenty of others too, I haven’t had a 4 cyl ‘box done in many years so no idea of cost.
  2. GT6 Mk1: I bought a NOS brake master cylinder, given its age I fitted a new seal kit, fitted it to the car and used a braided hose & stainless fittings to connect to the 4-way connector on the chassis. Mk1 2000 Estate: wrestled with a door furlex seal, O/S/R now looking neater, the new furlex is nowhere near the quality of the old one that came off, can't see it lasting long. Fitted a new door hand strap to the N/S/R, fitted a slightly less knackered strap to the O/S/R mechanism. The speedo has packed up completely, it has been fluctuating since I bought the car, today I had a new speedo cable fitted, no improvement, the angle drive was checked, appears to be working fine. I connected the old speedo cable to the speedo and used my power drill to drive it, the speedo appears to be fine. It looks like I need to swap out the speedo drive pinion from the A-type OD, I just hope this can be done in situ. M2 PI: Fitted a new door hand strap to O/S/R & adjusted headlights, had a couple of flashes last night.
  3. I had a bit of a result on my Mk1 Estate today, the leading edge of both rear wings & the top of the sills on both sides were quite scabby & I was expecting the worst. I have the car booked in to have them looked at (ie filled) and the wings painted as they couldn't do a colour match. I was fed up with looking at the scabbiness and thought I have nothing to lose by trying to tidy the area up, got a wire cup brush on the drill and, there are no holes, the steel is pitted of course but for now I have primed & painted the area, will do a better job when the weather warms up. I'm now going to save the £1k I'd been quoted for this job, that will buy a good few rattle cans of Cherry Red.
  4. worn dizzy spindle? weak springs? might be time for a rebuild of the dizzy, or stick a cheap powerspark on in, all new components, just not sure I'd rely on it for any length of time.
  5. I'm not sure what crank pulley you have, certainly on the bonded rubber variety the timing can wander due to delamination of the rubber. I have seen significant timing drift as a result of this myself previously.
  6. No aerials, no radios, just stream from my phone to Bluetooth speakers, leaves dash free for more speakers & no need for holes.
  7. I'm probably being optimistic about the sunshine prospects this year but have fitted a sunshade to my PI rear windscreen today.
  8. Same problem here, hence needing to sell this one

  10. Mark's car has sold, mine is still available though, see ad on here 🙂
  11. Alfa 156 seats in saloons & estates, very comfortable indeed, buy the right ones and you even get an opening cubby box in the armrest.
  12. I have a backline LSD in the 3.63 in my GT6, a great diff, very pleased with it.
  13. Mk2 PI Saloon: OD misbehaving & reverse gear difficult to fit, have obtained a new 'box & OD, just need to arrange fitting. Mk1 2000 Estate: Picked up a reconditioned rocker cover at Stoneleigh today, looks a lot better now. I also picked up a Mk1 PI Formula steering wheel, I already had a boss for it, will fit as & when I do 2.5/PI conversion.
  14. Here's my Mk2 PI, picked up new gearbox & OD for it today.
  15. Bit quiet this last week: Mk1 2000 Estate - Fitted new radiator, previous one was 2/3 blocked up, spitting out coolant on a long run, no signs of overheating though. I also fitted one of Lloyd's new tailgate hinge covers, unfortunately I can't quite get the headlining to tuck under properly. I also can't get the rear roof light to work, no current so wiring issue somewhere.
  16. 2000 Mk1 Estate - It was -5C this morning, took an age to defrost the car, hopefully fitting a heated rear screen next weekend will help, new seals are needed all round as the ice on the inside is harder to shift. I didn't fancy driving far today in case salt had been put down, not seen much this year though, I think the council can't afford it. I used the time to fit a Hazard relay, switch & warning light, very straightforward on this car, the indicator wiring even had a spare slot for the bullets from the switch. I need to work out where to mount the switch now, not keen on making holes in the trim. 2.5 PI Saloon - cover removed, car & cover dried off, cover replaced, battery on charge, gave the car a good clean, including the engine bay.
  17. Alfa 156 Wendy, they're a common mod for 2000/2500, especially as James Shackford sells a conversion bracket set which makes fitting them straightforward
  18. 2.5 PI Mk2 Saloon - fitted the newly trimmed Alfa seats, I'm really pleased with the colour match to the chestnut interior. 2000 Mk1 Estate - ran an additional power feed to the passenger footwell, fitted an oil pressure gauge, a voltmeter and a tachometer, they don't add any power but I do like instrumentation. I also used my new pressure washer for the first time and gave these two cars a good underbody wash, hoping to do the GT6 & TR6 tomorrow.
  19. It was really bad timing, the brown set were a light grey when I bought them, they would have looked better in the Cactus Estate, the second pair I bought are black and I could have lived with them in the PI and saved £800 on having them retrimmed, I really must learn to be more patient!
  20. Too cold for much work in the brief gap between finishing work & darkness today: 2000 Mk1 Estate - ceiling light now screwed to roof, it was working fine with a new bulb but for some reason it had just been dangling. Voltage stabiliser was playing up, gauges working intermittently, swapped out with spare and now gauges are working. Mk2 2.5 PI Saloon - Collected Alfa seats from trimmer today so refitted runners with Shacktune bits, will swap out at weekend.
  21. I did caveat my comment Rob, were I physically smaller I'd be happy to do RBRR in my GT6, I drove it from Ullapool to Corby in 12hrs, only stopping for fuel a few times, that was ok but I wasn't trying to sleep at all, prob a good job as I was on my own!
  22. I own both a TR6 & a Mk1 GT6, the driving experience is different, the TR feels almost spacious after a run in the GT6 for a start. My GT6 has slightly more power available than my TR but the latter offers more usable power because of its more predictable handling characteristics. I was comfortable completing the RBRR in the TR, I don't think doing in the GT6 would be such a positive experience, unless I were to lose a lot of weight in advance!
