  1. The complete Koni & Eibach springs kit from James Shackford transforms the car, almost completely dialling out roll in corners, I was very impressed when I fitted it on my Mk2
  2. err... Mk1 2.5 PI Estate (ish) Engine, gearbox, OD & PAS rack now installed, a fun day was had by Dave Harvey & I with the installation. The supplied clutch release bearing carrier operating lever had been welded previously, this put the arms out of true, rendering it useless, luckily the lever from the 'box I'd removed from the car was fine and was pressed into service.
  3. 2000 Mk1 Estate: Getting ready for engine/box installation, noticed that the engine block (late GT6) had dowel fitted at approx 008 degrees off centre, the bell housing didn't have a corresponding hole, bit of dremel action removed the protruding dowel after mole grips failed to shift it. Transmission tunnel received a coat of paint, this is on top of rust converter, hopefully stay solid for a while. Distributor drive gear fitted with extension piece, coil bracket painted, coil fitted. Engine cross-member & ARB fitted to engine. Engine & Gearbox placed onto their trollies, ready for mating and positioning under the car, ready for fitting on Wednesday.
  4. Another vote for the 3:63 diff here, I use one in my GT6 with a Sprint J-type OD, a great combination.
  5. 2000 Estate: 2l engine & A type OD 'box removed, heater & blower removed, radiator removed. Engine bay cleaned & degreased, paintwork titivated (rattle cans), wheel arches derusted, rust treatment applied then undersealed. Transmission tunnel degreased, rust treatment applied. Strut gaiters replaced, tie rods & steering linkages powder coated, reconditioned PAS rack fitted to cleaned & painted x-member. Engine x-member & gearbox x-members powder coated. Heater box painted, NOS matrix fitted along with reconditioned heater valve, refitted to engine bay, twin speed wiper motor fitted with additional wiring added, additional wiring bulkhead grommets fitted to facilitate PI Fuel Pump wiring, inertia switch fitted to N/S wing for fuel pump supply, will have twin relay alongside (providing redundancy in situ). I am now ready to fit the engine & gearbox, planned for the 15th Nov. GT6: Has finally returned from France, the recovery took one month, car looks very sad & damp, should be back on road w/c 6th Nov, no room to store at home though until the Estate work is complete (est late Dec) PI Saloon: tucked up in neighbour's garage, hoping to check on condition today.
  6. No, I have Tony Lindsey-Dean's R3 cam, I did have the PH3 fitted previously, I'd say they are comparable.
  7. What cam are you using Anthony? I have a 300 cam in my car and the book settings were fine to get it started.
  8. Does your car still have a remote starter relay? I would suggest you need a GT6 hi torque unit, that's what I have in my 2.5l GT6.
  9. Start off with the book timings, then adjust until best idle
  10. I had my beam checked the day before RBRR with the same result, no beam pattern from my LEDs, a quick swap back to Halogen and a recheck, all was well, £10 well spent.
  11. I'm running the OTP979 in my PI Saloon Pete, it seems up to the job but I've not done many miles on it. I fitted one on the advice of a friend who is running one in his Mk1 PI saloon successfully. Ian
  12. I use these in both my Mk1 & Mk2, the glass appears to be coated and I don't have to dip, worked quite well on RBRR, apart from a couple of cars who's lights were clearly out of adjustment https://www.therange.co.uk/leisure/motoring/interior-accessories/in-car-technology/rear-view-mirror-camera/
  13. Team 13 (it got wearing hearing all the comments about how unlucky that was, proved correct unfortunately) Our first issue was with the wipers, the Scottish weather did its worst and the wiper rack snapped at the motor fitting end, annoyingly we would both occasionally hit the wiper switch by accident, this left the wipers stuck upright, resolved by disconnecting the plug. We had two injectors decide to pack up, the first resolved by bleeding, the second didn't respond to that so we swapped it for a spare, no drama there. Then the fun began, the car cut out on Dartmoor, driving along fine then nothing, no coughing, no rough running, just dead. We checked the ignition circuit, all seemed well, swapped out coil & rotor arm in case, off we went, then it happened again. We thought the alternator felt a bit warm, output voltage was fine though, we swapped it out for a new unit, in turn that ran just as hot, then the car failed again on the A303, again, no warning, motoring along then it stopped. We had swapped the pump out for a replacement unit, I did notice the pressure was low at idle however, I will be checking for evidence of fuel contamination blocking the filters when I get the car home from the RAC, hopefully this weekend. Frenchie & I were very disappointed not to make the finish with only 125 miles to go, neither of us fancied breaking down on the M25 though, the right call I think. Assistants used: Dave & Ilka, Nigel Gair Tools used: Frenchie's teeth (I now know good way to test injector hoses for pulse), spanners, wire strippers (Nigel's), pliers, screwdrivers
  14. Stag & FL Mk1/Mk2 Estate tanks are the same, the PFL Mk1 Estate tank is smaller, I intend fitting the larger tank to my PFL car when I convert to PI. Wards are looking at having the next batch of ali tanks ready for EFi, with a swirl pot and a return line stub, I am told that they might also have identified an in-tank pump that will fit too, I'll keep an eye out for that. I looked up the Baldwin filter thread on the TRR forum (thanks Nick) and I have now ordered one of these https://inlinefilters.co.uk/Filters-Fuel/InLine/MetalStrainer/FIN-FF30145/ which is similar but with 12mm tails. I will fit this to my PI on its return from the RAC, hopefully this weekend. I'm interested to see how you get on with your mods Pete, I have a larger tank ready to go into my Estate but it's not too late for me to modify it. Ian
  15. I converted my 2000 Estate from positive to negative earth, this meant changing the powerspark ignition too, the magnetic ring on the - Earth system didn't fit, had to reuse the one from the + Earth kit, very poor quality control. I have a 123+ dizzy to fit once new motor is installed, I don't trust the powerspark kit, too cheap to be much good.
  16. Yes, KMI will refurb the MU's no problem, I even had them tap the blank boss on the top so I could fit a pressure gauge sender directly to the MU. I am interested the pipe bore question, my supply pipework is standard PI, feeding a Bosch type pump, I am sure my issues were pressure related too. Ian
  17. GT6 Mk1: added another exhaust mounting strap between the diff and the pipe, I'm running a wider bore single pipe system and it didn't have a support between the manifold downpipe and the rear silencer, I'm happier that it now has some more support. Whilst under the car I greased the handbrake guides & the rear hubs. 2.5 PI: The trip reset button was hanging loose, I made up a bracket and secured it to the original trip reset bracket, it's now supported & out of the way. I'm having trouble with my air plenum, it doesn't want to sit straight on the TBs, I spaced the lower bracket out with washers today but I'm still having trouble with it, I am tempted to remove the lower bracket and use jubilee clips on all six hoses, rather than only the outer two. New coolex radiator has electric fan fitted to front face, have wired it into previous fan's relay and it works, including off override switch. The previous owner has wrapped all additional wiring in tape, whilst it looks neat it makes it harder to work out what wires are doing what, I'd like to remove superfluous wiring from previous fan, I'll have to tear into this at some point. Mk1 2000 Estate: Have signed off on getting a set of CV shafts for this car, the parts laying around are getting beyond control: engine, gearbox/OD, diff, PI kit, Exh manifold & system, I really could use another garage. Luckily I have secured the use of a neighbour's garage to store my PI in after RBRR, this will give me a couple of months to work on the Estate in my own garage, destressing the project and allowing time for me to clean/paint the engine bay & underside.
  18. I think Jonathan did a colour change to Magenta, it's certainly not a common colour.
  19. Jonathan Mark Ingram of Northants TSSC area, you can find him on Facebook
  20. After fitting the new "S" pinion, my speedo needle was wavering again. I decided to try the digital speedo again, I am pleased to report that I now have an accurate speedo, let's hope it keeps working like this.
  21. Mine is in the shed, I'm converting my Mk1 Estate to PAS & have a used rack, I think I'll have it checked over before fitting it.
  22. How much are they charging Pete? I have a similar rack I'd like reconditioning. Ian
  23. My PI is a Mk2, 13" rims as standard but it is running on 14" Stag steel rims. The "S" cars came on 14" rims with a different speedo pinion gear, I have bought one of those and will fit it, I will then have done all that I can to get it right. Speedy Cables have returned the digital speedo again but I can't be bothered trying it, I have zero confidence that it would work.
