  1. The Bank Holiday weekend saw attention being given to my GT6s brake system, the rears have been rebuilt, new hardware & pipework, the fronts have received new pipes & flexi hoses and the M/cyl flushed through with meths to clean out sediment, it appears to be a recently fitted unit. I have rebuilt a pair of front callipers with a spacer kit and will be fitting Capri vented discs to the front with Tim Ward's assistance next weekend, we're converting to 12mm wheel studs at the same time. I also picked up a pair of late Spit IV seats, recliners with headrests, I'm waiting to hear from Park Lane regarding the cost of them making me a leather seat cover set but with GT6 style horizontal flutes, I expect to hear the figure next week. I believe the runners might need more holes drilling as they're not quite in the same position, anyone know for sure?
  2. Right, for a Spitfire I'd use a GPS speedometer, my GT6 has one from speedhut.com with a matching Tacho, they are 100mm so the correct size, that wasn't an option for the TR, hence having the original speedo converted.
  3. You send your speedo to "speedy cables" and then you wait....and you wait...eventually they will get round to doing the conversion and you pay. Revington sell the speedy conversion but you still have to wait as they don't keep them on the shelf. Revington also sell the sender unit, I bought one of those, easy enough job to remove the angle drive, fit the sender and wire it up. I'm very pleased with my speedo now, it's rock solid and once calibrated it matches the GPS speedo on my phone accurately.
  4. Ok, Canley used to have the top plates made to original spec', the guy doing this retired last year and Canley started sourcing from Bastuck. Because most people want the shiny look of the Bastuck plates all the suppliers seem to sell them, unfortunately their mounting studs are shorter than the originals were, that is why the spacers won't fit. The original thinner size of spacer fits fine on the Bastuck plates, the studs might need straightening slightly to line up with the holes but I didn't have any problem getting them on.
  5. GT6 - I had fitted Koni dampers & 450lb springs, this lowered the car nicely and transformed the handling, unfortunately the front tyres were fouling on the wheel arch lip. I ordered some spacers from Canley's, long story short I had to order thinner spacers and fitted them today, car is now sitting a bit higher and the contact has stopped. TR6 - Replacement loom has returned from Autosparks having been repaired after it suffered some chafing on installation, this was as a result of a couple of the cable runs being too short, these have also been extended as part of the repair. I can't face pulling the loom for a third time just yet, will wait until the weather improves and I can spend a whole day on it.
  6. I had my TR6 speedo converted to electronic operation, I replaced the angle drive with a transponder at the gearbox end and it all wires up. I calibrated it against a GPS speedo on my phone, only took 4 attempts and it's now bang on.
  7. No mechanical backup, I have another GPS speedo via my phone however.
  8. My car came with a Speedhut GPS speedo too, I decided to fit the matching rev counter, they don't look too bad at all.
  9. GT6 - Rolling road session booked on the 13th, this should see the HS6's set up correctly. Jobs coming up include converting to M12 wheelstuds, I will then fit renovated US Slot Mags to replace current Wolfrace mags, at the same time I intend fitting vented discs (thanks Tim Ward for machining them). New loom due from Autosparks at some time so rewire coming. Some interior trim needs sorting, carpets & seats mainly. TR6 - My AFR gauge was reading a constant 19.9, turned out to be the O2 sensor had gone bad, it had a fairly lengthy loom attached and I think it got a bit too hot, I have fitted a 14.7 supplied one, it has a shorter loom so hopefully I'll avoid a recurrence, this is my 3rd sensor though, I guess they are consumables. Rewire effectively complete, goal of neatening up EFI wiring not completely successful as fitting Fuel pressure gauge & AFR gauge into console has created a new "rats nest" Also, additional fusebox positioning blocking N/S Demister hose from being fitted, more thought required there. Otherwise, the car's a blast to drive.
  10. The Fitchett ones are genuine old stock, as such they are covered in whatever protective wax stuff was on them 50 years ago, it takes a bit of effort to clean it off but it's well worth the effort. The seal fits onto the glass perfectly, no need for any lube, it then fits tightly onto the aperture with the aid of some cord, a much easier job than I expected.
  11. I have just returned a Canley’s seal as it was too large, Fitchett’s sell original seals which fit perfectly as TimW suggests.
  12. That isn't a Triumph camshaft part number Matthew, was this the one on eBay?
  13. It sits on different mounts to standard, have a look on the TRShop website, they show the J type adaptor plate. Obviously you'd need the appropriate loom too.

    diff ratios

And if you want to drain the oil make sure you get the right rear cover gasket as the Stag one isn't right for the 2.5 diff, guess how I found out  :B
  15. I went for Falken Sincera 195/70R14 and 2 years on am still very pleased, I even bought Falkens for my Vectra as I find them so good. Ian
  16. I imagine the demand would depend on the cost to a degree, do you have a view as to what the final cost would be once all other parts were bought? Ian
