    Gasket sealing

I am beginning the re-assembly of my 2000 engine and wondered what thoughts people had on gasket sealing. Do you use gasket sealer like hermetite etc or as I have always done, just grease to locate the gasket and then bolt the bits together? The theory here being that it's the gasket that forms the seal, not the sealer and that any spare grease won't do any harm whereas any gasket sealer that comes adrift could get in oil ways etc.
  3. MSA permits issued :) Entries now closed but as it says in the regs, late entries can be considered at the organsier's discretion. I can confrim, I will consider late entries ;)

That's not the case and I hope the MSA don't read it as they are currently giving grief about "the route". We are trying to make it clear to the MSA that there is no route specified, there are no code boards and no competitive element on the road. Hopefully, they'll be OK with this or it's more hoops to jump through.

  6. Good stuff from Mike eh :) As it's really official now it's a good job I have the rally plates and trophies ordered. The rally plates in particular I like, thanks to Andy Martin for design work 8)

    head gasket

I have only used the standard (or maybe thicker) gasket sold by the club on mine and it's been fine on my rally car. Other bits of the engine not so, but the headgasket yes ;D Don't know about a "competition" version.
  8. tiggrr1 wrote:8 or 9 tests  :o :o :o Are you trying to kill our cars ......................... ;) :P ;D I just want to make sure you get your money's worth :)
  9. Rally plates organised ;) Next will be sorting out trophies. Meanwhile, done some calculations and can get 8 tests in, maybe 9
  10. 3 point inertia reels bought from Rimmer Bros

  12. Fitted easily enough in my saloon - no knowledge of an estate though :-/
  13. OK Mike thanks - so that should make at least 6 entries, if Mike B makes it too that will be even better :) :)

  16. It looks like Steve has just saved the event(clap)(clap) Confirmation shortly
  17. Thanks guys. I hear what you say Mike but fair play to our southern friends, they do turn out for the AutoEcosse which isn't exactly in the sarf. Actually, what about those who say the club is too southern based and there's nothing organised in the north :-/ Anyway, one entry "in the post" and another PM to me to say they will support the event. :) On the other hand, two emails to say they can't :-/ It will be touch and go at this rate. If I get 5 though by this weekend I think I'll run it but with a maximum of 10cars - that will make it economically viable, us virgin organisers will learn alot and there will probably be more tests and hence fun for those who are entered ;)
  18. This is the updated entry list! Seeded car no     Driver     CT Area     Codriver     CT Area     Car     Registration 1     Bryce Greenwood     Pendle & Pennine     Jonathan Blackburn          Toledo     KLY 638K 2     Peter Fern     Beds & East Bucks     David Wilson     Beds & East Bucks     Acclaim     UTA 907X As I have said, according to MSA rules I have to apply for the permit this weekend. The cost will be £160 for this alone, there will be the costs of food, rally plates, trophies and goodness knows what else. I also have to consider those good people who have volunteered to marhsall and help out in organisation etc. If I do not have more entries by this weekend I cannot commit the club to the costs involved and will have to pull the event :o So, if you are planning to enter PLEASE LET ME KNOW NOW
  19. Hi all, This weekend I have to apply for the permit which will cost the club £160 and there's no refund. :o The only entry I actually have is 1. Peter Fern/David Wilson -  Acclaim - Beds & East Bucks Area Pretty damned sure will enter - Bryce Greenwood/Jonathan Blackburn  Toledo - Pendle and Pennine Others to have expressed an interest are Rob Southern/? - Spitfire - Pendle and Pennine Steve Thompson/Gary Seddon - GT6 - Pendle and Pennine Mike Charlton/Jane Charlton - Spitfire - Pendle and Pennine. Doug Foreman/Katie Foreman -   2000 Mk1 saloon Alan Pettit/? Simon Holland/? Barry McGrath/Dan Wimhurst - Herald Special - Pendle and Pennine/Hull & East Yorks Mike Bishop/Darren Armitage - Dolomite Sprint - Essex Reserves! Andy Heeley/? - Nova Thomas Gaythorpe/Paul Gaughan - VW Corrado I know the regs have been downloaded 18 times so I hope there are others out there too. Can I have some feedback and an idea of commitment to enter please? I really want to run this event and will put it on even if the club makes a small loss as I am sure it will grow and grow after the first running ;)
  20. On the BHP figures from James' site. My very early MK2 2000 engine is at 84BHP, of the flat top piston variety. If I put in a GT6 cam and the relevant bobweights etc then I would be able to achieve the GT6 power as quoted of 98BHP (both DIN I imagine). If so then the engine would have the same power output as the 2500TC all bar 1BHP. Have I got that right? I understand it won't have the same torque but it would have more than the standard MK2 2000 engine as well? In fact, doing some further calculations, because of the car's lower weight it'sBHP/tonne would be 83 whilst the 2500S was 85 and that was one of the quickest wasn't it?

This will ensure that it's at the optimum condition if it's mineral based. Synthetic - make sure it's really synthetic as many countries have no legal definition for the term and some oil companies can be unscrupulous as a consequence. Best to stick to 20W50 and make sure that there's a SAE specification on the pack - if not then it's probably reclaimed from that big container that you pour your oil into at the dump...... Thanks, Karen (Mrs Rarebits) 30 years ago I used to work for a small lubricant companyb called Freedom Oils in Tinsley,Sheffield as a salesman. The blender/technican or whatever he was used to say that "our" oils were better than the big oil companies products cos we weren't good enough to produce "down" to the minimum needed for the SAE specs etc! Not sure about that myself but certainly SE spec oil then - ie the early 80s was a good. We knew "SF spec" as Ford spec due to those demanding people at Ford wanting a higher spec than normal ;D Anyway, I have been out of fuel and lubricants for 20 years but I would certainly agree with Karen, use a good SAE spec 20/50 and change it often.

  23. I'll probably apply for the permit next weekend before I go away on holiday for a couple of weeks. It might get a bit tight timewise if I leave it later. That'll be a fair few £ for the club as it's a fee per car per venue :o Oh, best organise some trophies too ;) I feel at the moment that I need to do something each weekend where I can now as the event will be here before we know it - must be only 9 or 10 weeks away. :)
  24. As an update - Today I have notified the Police forces about the event and where the test sites are with times etc. Also produced 50 leaflets which Rebecca and I will be distributing tomorrow to households near one of the test sites as required by the MSA's Route Liaison Officer - so that the residents can object if they want to(scared) Then moved on to creating yet more paperwork that seems never ending! Then again we are creating the event from scratch so it will be easier next time.
  25. I have been contacted by some people not yet mentioned in this thread who are planning to enter :) I have decided to continually "seed" the entry list as I get new entries so that should be a bit of fun - you won't be holding on to car 1 for long Ferny ;D Meanwhile, I have had a query about the "spill kit". Please see the photo - the spill kit is easily made up with a container of absorbent material ( as in cat litter!), 2 bits of card and some cloth along with a pair of disposable gloves, all contained in a sealable bag).
