    Herald carpet

1218 wrote:Jordan what are you going to do with the original set for your car? M. Hi Mark, I'll probably throw them out or keep them in the shed for sentiment to the car, due to them being the originals. Its only the drivers footwell which is worn the rest of the carpet just needs a good wash and maybe re dying back to the original colour. Thats a lovely interior you've got there Peter!!

    Herald carpet

Hi, I'm in the process of ordering a moulded carpet set for my Herald 1200. I cant seem to make my mind up on what colour carpet to buy. Its between the Black, grey or Red as my cars Cherry Red with Black trim, Could i see pictures of your cars with the moulded carpet sets in to help me choose my colour. Jordan
  3. I had the exact same problem with my Toledo, I removed the starter (which was also a reconditioned unit) lubricated it, put it back in and still it wouldn't engage the flywheel and just whined. It turned out the engine ground lead had come loose not making a good contact. Tightened it up, and it worked like new.
  4. I still need to gap the plugs (thanks for reminding me), and i've put leccy ignition in it so know need to check points.   ;) I've replaced the rotor arm and leads also.
  5. Well i went down to my local motor factors today and got a FRAM filter for £5.09 inc VAT, and Filled with Halfords Classic car oil. At least Thats done for another 3000 miles.
  6. I'm REALLY enjoying driving my Herald, its one of those cars which I automatically know is going to be staying with me for a long time! The Herald has so much more character compared to the Toledo in which it replaced. I'd love it Mark, if you could send me some photo's of your car for inspiration  ;)
  7. Hello Mark - Ok thats no problem, i'll order a new one from Paddocks. I thought that these old filters might have been better some how as most new stuff nowadays if crap!!! Did your Granddad specifically ask for the filter back after its first service?  :)
  8. Hello, Its time for an oil change on my Herald 1200. Whilst rumaging on ebayi found these New Old Stock oil filters. Is it worth me getting one of these or should i stick with a brand new one. there both around the same price. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Triumph-1300-1500-Dolomite-Herald-Spitfire-Toledo-Oil-filter-1-/271124311828?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3f2044af14 kind regards Jordan  :)
  9. As already said, cleaning and preparing the engine for the paint is ESSENTIAL!!! It took me a good few hours cleaning and preparing my Morris 1000's engine, using cellulose thinners and an old toothbrush. Top Tip: Before applying the paint, put the tin in a bucket or bowl of piping hot water, this thins the paint and makes it easier to apply, Also lasts longer. Happy Painting Jordan
  10. I've used red gloss Hammerite on my Dads 3000E Capri engine, and after a few years still looks the same as when it was applied. I've even used household Black Gloss paint on my Morris Minor engine and its came up glossy and had an enamel look to it, that worked well too. Up to the individual i suppose.
  11. The Mk1 Pre facelift Capri's used the square head lights. Like this one below: You should find some LHD ones as the Capri was a massive hit in Germany. However, Mk1 Capri parts are unbelievably expensive nowadays.
  12. I've had a reply back from the guy on eBay with the manifold adapter, and he recommended me fitting a Stromberg CD125, using his adapter. He also claimed that the Stromberg would improve performance and give me an extra 5 miles per gallon!!!!  :) Sound good,
  13. Thanks Paudman, I've contacted him and just waiting for a response now. I'm going to look for a adaptor where i can use a morris minor's Single HS2.
  14. There doesn't seem to be any for sale at the moment, Does anyone have one which there willing to sell me? Or is there a place which sells them new?
  15. Thats exactly the sort of thing i was look for Paudman, thanks allot mate.  :)
  16. Cheers ferny, Weren't they twin carb'd? I was thinking more along the lines of a single SU carb conversion, like used on BMC cars back in the day.
  17. Hi Guys, I was just wondering, is it possible to replace the Solex carburettor on a 1200 Herald, with a Single HS2 or HS4 SU carburettor. Is there inlet manifold which would fit? Regards Jordan
  18. 3690 wrote:Has anyone had dealings with Coverdale Carpets? I asked for some samples, and they sent exactly what I had requested by return of post.I'm tempted by their top of the range wool carpet in grey. My present black one always needs to be vacuumed . I've not bought from them personally, but over on the Triumph Dolomite Forum theres a few guys who have bought from them and have been very pleased with there set. When it comes to replacing my Toledo's carpets, that's who i'll probably choose.  ;) However, whether there 'Herald' carpets are a good fit or not is beyond me. I've always thought of Newton Commercial where the best for Molded carpet sets for Herald's and Vitesse. However, £200 (or whatever there priced at these days) is allot of money for just carpet IMHO. Regards Jordan

  22. Thanks for the advice guys, The Yellow wire was the light wire, the Red to the SW and the white to the CB on the coil. Fitted it this afternoon and it looks ace Thanks Again Jordan
  23. Allot of people like to use 155 80 R13's, as it give the same rolling resistance as the cross-ply's, but there too big for the 3.5" rim IMHO. So your best bet is to look for some 145 80 R13 Tyres. Many Herald owners use these (i even have them on my Toledo). Your other option is some 155 70 R13's like I've got on my Herald. There really popular as most 1990's Supermini's had them and there Cheap. They have a lower profile compared the he 145's, but the car should handle really nicely with these on, and they look quite good on my car too. Kind Regards Jordan
  24. Hi Guys, I've just bought one of these; But i'm a little confused with how to wire it into my Toledo. Its got: - Black Wire: Ground - Red Wire: ? - White Wire: ? - Yellow Wire: ? Now i know one of them has to go to the ignition side of the Fusebox, One has to go to the Ne- side of the coil and one has to go to the interior lights. But i don't have a clue which colours go where? Hope someone can help Jordan
