  4. BrendanD wrote:I have the motolita black leather. Very nice solid steering wheel. Looks right for the car unlike those wood rimmed ones, and very comfortable. Photo? :P
  5. herald948 wrote:Most of what's in your picture looks ok, but those are pretty wimpy-looking shoe hold-down springs!?  ??) ;D my old one's are still ok, but i'm going to change them anyway ^^i keep the old ones as spare  ;)
  6. My parts arrived today , so these weekend i'm going to be busy !  ;D And also do some more sanding on my spit  :P

  8. hi , i want to know what steering wheel's i could buy for a Spitfire 1978  (Late/ TR7 steering)  ;) my old ( original) one is still good , but the rubber is cracking so ...  :)
  9. These cars need a nice exhaust note! ;D
  10. mik wrote: I don't think that's true for the later cars. It's a while since I looked at mine (which are both in pieces anyway at the moment) but I think only the cars with the horn push in the centre of the steering wheel have an earth strap on the steering rack. The later ones (with the horn push on a column stalk) are earthed elsewhere. Wim may have the type with the earth strap for all I know (though I'd think a 1978 car would have the later switchgear) but just in case anyone is wondering why they can't find this connection on their car... hi! i have the tr7 steering column .. so no earth strap  ;) The tr7 steering column was on cars 1977 on  i think  :P a friend of mine has a 77 spit and has also a tr7 column ..   ;D Kind regards Wim
  11. 1317 wrote:Wim, Just below the bracket in picture two there is a clamp. Removing the clamp by undoing the two bolts will allow the lower steering shaft to slide into the upper shaft. So, you can undo the steering knuckle and slide the shaft to get the knuckle off the rack.  Then you can remove the knuckle from the lower steering shaft. Both the bracket you show and the one farther up the column have felt packings to help tighten them without causing noise. The felt probably has been crushed too thin to hold the column. Adding some more felt would probably tighten the column in the brackets. It is normal to have a blanking plug in the steering rack. The plug gets removed and a grease fitting substituted when the rack is to be lubricated. The plug is then replaced as it holds the earth connections to the column.                                                                                                   All the best,                                                                                                   Paul thanks paul , i've ordert the parts that i needed so i will see ;) i'll keep you posted  :) Kind regards Wim

    Radiator query

    3815 wrote:Does anybody know whether the side pieces that surround the core and hold the brackets, are  just glued at the top and bottom. one of mine is loose and it does look like some kind of gluey hardened stuff underneath. IVe just taken the rad out for a clean up and aLso noticed that the fins were all bent over like a closed Venetian blind on the front side.. Would this be contributing to my hot running? They are all now straight-ish but could do with a cost of paint as the copper is showing through.  Any particular paint or just standard high tEmp stuff Hi, i used hi temp paint .. i've not tested my rad yet because my car is still on a rebuild; but looks nice  ;) Kind regards Wim

  16. rotoflex wrote:Ford's color of silver, named "Argent".  And sort of glossy, as if they had clear coat even in those pre-clear coat days. It is the same color used on the GT6 painted valve cover & air filter cover. Are there any other parts of the 1500 which were of the same color?  You could do them all at the same time. my valve cover and air filter cover i spayed in silver already and looks nice so , i will look at it  ;) Thanks ;

  21. I've got a mail from canley's where I bought the kit. They say that it must be connected like in the hayes manual.. Because in the reservoir there is a camber for the front and one for the back brakes. 2/3 for the front and 1/3 for the back. Mine was original otherwise.. Kind regards wim
