  3. Yep - my Spitfire has a 1300 (recessed) block but everything else is 1500.

We have personally and Club wise got some good friends and relatives up there and even ship P and P members up there to live ;) However on the political scene, everyone has a right to vote one way or another but I think it would be a disaster for the Union to be broken up by people voting with hearts and not heads The major fear, to me , is the allowing of 16 year old`s+ to vote when they have not any experience in using heads in the knowledge of life , only of their hearts making that decision and sometimes being lead by others. How , when still a school person, can they make life changing decisions when they have not had a life? eg in banking,finance,....shopping There was an interview with some of that age group the other day, and one being asked which way they would vote....the answer came back " In this instance I think i will be voting yes" ...as though there were parliamentary rules of voting on this scenario ,every five years .The reporter had to correct them in saying " In this instance?............this is a vote for life ,not every few years if you have made your decision ...that is it" However , whatever the outcome I`m sure the `Round Britain Run`will be welcomed wherever we go     Of course it will - just keep your heads down ;)

When i 1st went there, the roads had yet to be properly upgraded to their current status. I tended to have canoes on the roof and kids in the car (or the other way around?) and be in some 'family' car or other. Once the roads were upgraded, all I wanted to do was revisit in my GT6 but it never happened. Off to Ardnamurchan again next April- bring it on!  8) The RBRR's done stand pretty high on the list of good times had in Triumphs- that's not an invitation for Tetbury's finest to lower the tone ;) The roads in Ardnamurchan are still like you remember them.  Locals in vans who know the roads able to embarrass the most expensive sports cars.

Your feedback was discussed at the time (that's why I kept it) but as it was the only such feedback we ever recieved we decided to stick with what we had. It is getting a little long in tooth now though, but that is soon to change (thanks Craig). It was intended to be constructive feedback at the time Dave.  I would have preferred to buy from you (Then) and on request I could have provided screenshots to illustrate the issue.  It was a particular challenge on some pages.
  7. Clive - I will not accept personal digs of the type which have been made by one particular individual on this thread.  Others have responded to my initial objection with the grace normally expected of this community.   I fail to see why one respected member should choose to take things personal.  If he wishes to have a private discussion he is welcome to do so.
  8. So - Dave has chosen to have a personal dig by publishing an old email of mine in his signature.  Here is the text.  It will be removed from the signature as it is a childish and deliberately inflammatory act. "Hi Your website is very pretty but those images that appear on the catalogue pages make it impossible to read the text. Not for the first time I've given up and am off to the Rimmerbros website. Seriously - a plainer background which would allow me to read the text without hurting my eyes would have got you several orders from me over the past 6 months but when I have a few things to order I just can't be bothered with your site. I assumed when you first did this that someone would notice the cock up - but I guess not.  Perhaps ask a few of your regulars - you'll find I am right I expect. Look forward to some readable pages in the future I hope Doug" Constructive criticism NO?  Giving an opportunity to improve things for his customers NO? But instead Dave has it stored away for a future date when he can use it to make a non-point when he's behaving badly and gets a bit upset when it is commented on.   Dave you are right - it was hardly a scrap and I singled no-body out - yet you choose to make a personal dig. Pathetic and childish.
  9. GT6boy wrote: Now that HAS lowered the tone!  ;) My friend has a minty-mint mk3 GT6 and a just as sweet very late 2.8 Special in red (same colour as yours?). Both totally original and in beyond fab condition. Lovely to hear the Capri burble past when it comes out for a tickle.  :) Where was the picture taken? Thats across the road from the Cluanie Inn - driving back from Skye last month.
  10. Slimboyfat wrote:Hardly a scrap Andy. Doug deserted us over 2 years ago (see my signature) so he can't desert us twice. Now lets start on our friends in the Southern hemisphere :P Your website at that time was completely unreadable - if you can't take feedback that is your problem.  Good to see you are as petty as I thought and I hadn't misjudged you. I can desert you twice - I have (As you have no doubt researched) bought a fair bit from you since then.  Aint happening again. You actually, on the basis of my objection to this thread, looked up my email address then looked through your old emails to find one from me to post on your signature.   That says rather more about you than it does about me pal.
  11. Slimboyfat wrote: The CT Forum used to be the place to be for a little light hearted joshing. Trouble is some read into this what they will, and can take undue offence. If this Forum was to be become a sanitised, and politically correct arena like those of other car clubs then it wouldn't be any place for me. If this thread had brought McJim back kicking and fighting then that would have been fantastic, I for one miss his interjections from up North. Good luck to you. That was not light hearted joshing Dave.  McJim has left the forum as well you know.  It was slagging off the Scots in general (not just one) and it was way over the line.
  12. No to the lambrini ;) I'll see some of you guys at Stirling stop on RBRR hopefully - the Spitfire is broke so I'll stand out like a sore thumb as I'll have this along instead
  13. PS - I know McJim and understood he had quit the forum?   Think of me has his grumpier substitute.
  14. I know they are being daft - but it is a very serious time up here.  It is not as simple a decision as most think and many many people are thinking extremely hard up here.  I am sure it will be a huge turnout.  Unlike a typical general election, people all over the place are attending and engaging in debates in village halls etc - I've never seen anything like it.   There are firm YES people (many who have thought it through, many who are dyed in the wool nationalists and many who are idiots - and I include the traditionally sectarian bigot population in that ......).   There are many firm NO people (many have thought it through, many have been firm NO forever and many are idiots - that includes the other half of the traditionally sectarian bigot population).   But its the "undecideds" who are the big danger area for both sides.  The people who are going to make the final decision next Thursday based on what they have been hearing on the news (big mistake), in the papers (bigger mistake) but also on what they have been hearing from colleagues, friends etc South of the border.   I know people who have moved from "no" to "undecided" and in some cases on to "yes" who have stated at least part of the reason is the "get lost ya bunch of scroungers" attitude we are seeing in jest, and not in jest from other parts of the UK (not just politicians).    So there's the rub - if you want us to stay don't overplay the "Scottish Idiots" type of thing - the politicians are doing it by blatantly lying on several points and when they are caught lying more people change their vote.   If friends/acquaintances etc are doing it too that might just be the last straw for some.   There is an awful lot of the type of chat in this thread.   Most of my work colleagues are south of Gretna and they are doing the same thing.   Pissing off those people who are otherwise friends is not a great way to motivate them to stay.   Anyway- that is me not taking sides. Tim - I have met plenty of Scots that I (And you probably) wouldn't like - but I have had more exposure.  We are mostly good guys.
  15. Colin - accepted.   You are correct.  The reporting I have seen in papers south of the border is indeed very different to the extent that the same paper will have diametrically opposite views on its front page depending which edition it is.   Anyway I'm not going to get political when I have an engine which has just blown itself to bits - priorities .........
  16. Nice.   If you guys think all Scots are a bunch of idiots don't come here.   More thought is going into the decision we have to make next week than you muppets could imagine.  It is a very tough and dare I say scary decision and lots of us are very very uncomfortable regardless of which way the vote goes.     And I come onto a Club Triumph thread and find this crap.   Canleys have lost a customer - well done.
  17. Might not be a bad idea to remember that this club has Scottish members.  I for one find the tone of the above a tad insulting.
  18. Wim I had very similar problems to yours years ago (on a recon overdrive) and I did 3 things. 1.  Drained and temporarily filled and ran the car on THINNER EP oil.  Not crazy thin, just EP75.   2.  Changed the O-Rings which came with the solenoid for the ones sold by Rimmers - which are a thicker rubber and create a better seal.   I always was suspicious that the tiny once that come with the new solenoids could allow oil to bypass them thus reducing pressure where you need it. 3.  I've forgotten what the 3rd thing was .......... Anyway I think 1 and 2 were the important ones.  Why the thinner oil - well if you're cone clutch isn't worn then pressure is your problem.  it may be that there is crud in your gearbox that is occasionally blocking the pressure relief valve.  The pressure increase at higher road speeds could explain why you are OK in 4th.  The thinner oil for a few hundred miles can help flush the crud into the sump/bottom of gearbox and its more likely to stay there with thinner oil.  Then drain and refill with EP90. Worth a try based on your symptoms. But I'm afraid it COULD be a worn cone clutch.  If that is the case best option will be an exchange.
  19. 4526 wrote: Well, if i look i've got problem number 2 on the list .. Strangly with some extra new oil it does work for a long time  :o Except that link is about the D-type OD and yours is a J-Type (isn't it?)
  20. I had similar many years ago on a J-Type. It could be a sticky solenoid - it can happen.  Worth trying to replace the o-rings on the valve, at the same time as draining the oil from both the drain plug on the gearbox and the OD sump. Something I tried on a whim and seemed to solve the problem was initially filling with thinner EP oil (eg EP70) and running it like that for 100 miles or so before refilling with EP90.  Had no problems afterwards so my theory that a bit of crud was interfering (E.g. with the pressure relief valve or similar) stood up - i.e. the clean new thinner oil may have flushed stuff out Not a definite but maybe worth a try
  21. Sticking Pressure relief switch OR a bit of crud stuck somewhere it shouldn't be feels most likely. Does it disengage if you let the speed drop right down?   Usual place I start is draining and flushing the oil.  Maybe fill it with thinner oil (temporarily) eg. EP75 and take a drive and see if it starts behaving.  If so, drain again and fill with proper stuff. Has worked for me on a couple of boxes.
  22. What you describe is a symptom of the clutch plate not fully releasing.   So it'll work in gear - and probably you could drive it (just) once it is rolling.  But if you knock it out of gear there is enough drag on the clutch to spin the input shaft and cause the problems re-engaging gear. Pump the pedal repeatedly and you may eventually get just enough movement to get it in gear. Things which cause insufficient movement. 1.  Hydraulic (air in system or seals) - most likely. 2.  Slave Cylinder needing pushed forwards a bit (the new ones - especially the Alloy ones in my experience - don't fit perfectly). 3.  Wear in the pedal/linkages - its surprising what a difference this can make, but the Pedal Bushes being worn or the clevis hole being worn oval can have  noticeable effect at the slave.
