  1. I have 2 different models - 1 stamped CD 150 as yours and one without the 150 stamp.  Pics included.   Let me know which you want, or whether you want one of each.  Did you also need the screws?

  3. Dan Have you got a picture of what you need?  I have a box of old carbureators (probably 10 or more) and various parts.  If I know what to look for I may be able to help out.

And if you are keen on hammering, that was the approach I took with my 68 - because Hazen hadn't posted about the dent puller when I damaged mine!!  Seriously tho, I did it because I had the body work tools at home and it was really easy to do in a couple of hours on a Saturday. I also like the idea of being able to gently hammer and tap metal and watch it slowly stretch and conform to new shapes.  Quite a fascinating experience!! And there was not much filler used at all.  Just enough to form a skin patch because this was never intended to be a permanent job.  The car needs a respray at some point and I wanted something that would 'blend in'. Am very pleased with how it turned out.

Mark Set up an auto search on eBay.  I bought an interior switch 3 months ago for £ 1 (I was the only bidder).  It cost me an additional £ 12.50 to get it shipped to Canada.   They do come up once in a while, just not very regularly. Lucas part number is 35562A.   8. When I upgraded the trailing arm bushes on my GT6 MK I, I went with the blue polybushes.  Was a lot of work to get the rubber bush with metal ring out, but the blue polybush went in well.  Been on the car for over 6000 miles and am happy with them. jb

  10. Shaun and Dirk Great thread and thank you for doing this. Am just starting in on the resurrection of a 1968 GT6 MK I.  The detailed pictures and some of the suggestions help a lot. whereas you were only a few months to get to where you are today, I am budgeting almost 5 years for the work.  My target is to have it ready for his 50th birthday in early 2018. Picked up the project today.  Unfortunately there is a lot less metal than what I was envisioning.  All wings, floors, bonnet and some of the chasis parts are now brown flaky 'used to be metal'.  This will be a challenging project, but am looking forward to it.   Will definitely be using your posts as inspiration to keep me going through the dark days. The cool thing is that I now own 2 1968 GT6 MK I's - # 10084 and 11039.  Both in signal red with black interior.  Want to get a Heritage Certificate for the 'new' car to see how close they were in the factory and whether they came across on the same boat. jb

Thanks for the great write up on this resto.  Have read it several times and will be referencing it more in the future as I have just purchased my own project - a 1968 GT6 MK I.  A couple of pics attached.  Have not seen the car yet as it was an internet purchase.  I collect it in early October. From what I gather, the car is in almost similar condition to what you started with - rusted floors and offside rear wing.  And the transmission internals are missing, but I purchased a MK II engine and transmission earlier this year so will use that for any bits and pieces needed. I already have a MK I GT6 in good driving condition. I like it so much I figure it would be good to resto another one while I can continue to drive mine. I have also not seen another MK I GT6 on the road - and I drive a lot and visit various British / Euro car shows.  Have only seen two other MK I's - this one and another project that I did not purchase (regret). Doubt that my rebuild will be completed as quickly as yours as in addition to my 8 - 5 job, I am also undertaking some higher education between now and June 2013. Thanks for the inspiration. jb
  13. Dished is my preference. I swapped out a 2 1/2 inch dished factory leather wrapped wheel for a 1 1/2 inch dished wood wheel.  The 1 inch loss in dish makes the car difficult to park and in tight situations - there is not sufficient room for my fingers to fit between the wheel and the signal and light stalks. When I find a good 2 1/2 inch dished wood wheel then I will be making another change. jb
  14. When I got my car, the wiper motor was kaput.  Wanting to maintain the look of originality I had a shop in Canada rebuild the interior bits of the motor.  I get one speed, but that has been all I ever needed. Could be an option. jb
