  1. Thanks for that I have now given it some serious pulling and it's off. Just gotta get back out to the garage and deal with my alternator now ;)
  2. I am just trying to swap my old alternator (GT6 Mk3) which is whistling quite badly with one I got from James Paddock. I wasn't expecting any issues and thought it would be a 15 minute job but how do you remove the wiring connector from the back? I thought once you removed the retaining clip it would just pull off but it's stuck solid and I don't want to break it. Cheers.
  3. Mine is a 72 2ltr with SU HS6 1.75"
  4. MB prefix engine is from 2000 Mk1 but the shaft is from Mk2. As far as I know anyway. But it's defo not the original GT6 engine.
  5. Mine has been shimmed. I assume to overcome a similar problem.
  6. I got a pair of SU HS6 Dolomite Sprints from Wins International for my GT6. I just used the dashpots and the pistons and replaced the taller ones that the previous owner had installed leaving me with a nice dent in the bonnet. I think they were about £90 for the pair and the bits I needed where in good enough condition for an easy swap.
  7. [quote=314 In writing this, I've come to a decision and have decided that come what may, I have to keep the car. Ad now deleted. I feel better already  ;) ;) ;) [/quote] Well done mate you know it makes sense :)
  8. I'd recognise that car anywhere :) It must be very difficult to let go after putting so much time, effort and money into it and also getting some great memories driving it? I will be interested to know if you get near your asking price as I firmly believe these cars are worth more than they generally seem to get, especially ones in such good nick as yours. Having said that no windscreen surround has got to be at least £2k off  ;D ;)
  9. John, Why are you selling the car? http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C324334

The cars hot, it smells of the 70s, has no mod cons, has a thin steering wheel you would laugh at it a modern car but when you sit in it and drive it, its unlike anything I've driven before and thats why I like it  :).

In the parts catalogue it also shows Mk3 US cars with 8 blades and later 13 blades so maybe the drivers handbook I have was catering for the US market more than the UK Another Triumph anomaly :)
  12. My car is clearly the devils spawn but works no probs. Standard rad, 13” Kenlowe blower mounted on brackets in front of rad (heretic!!) & no cowls of any type (burn him!). Last week my company car was suddenly ill and I had no choice but to use my GT6 as the coolest rep mobile in the country 8) Did 2 hours on motorway averaging around 75 - 80mph and never got above halfway on the gauge, same as ever. Wouldn't exactly recommend this to a friend as it all seems quite wrong but its worked like this a long while and has never had any overheating issues since its installation by the previous owner.

  14. 2396 wrote:Quote "I don't mind people looking at the car and thinking that looks nice but I got the distinct impression they were looking and thinking, cock" BO, if you were in a slammed citroen saxo with rude boy big bore exhaust I'd say you were right, cock! I think you can get away with it in a classic as it's all part of the look, sound and feel of an old sports car.  :) I agree Tarka, I probably should mod my statement as their faces changed from "who's that cock, to ohh... that looks nice". Mines got the standard backbox on it and its too quiet for me but I dont want to fork out and end up with something that sounds okay if your going for a 15 minute blast but would drive you nuts if you were in it for an hour. Getting out the car an hour later hunched up like Steptoe, sweating like a pig and deaf :). Mind you having seen a few photos I would say this was about standard for the GT6 community ;D
  15. 2396 wrote: Shall I fish it out? The need to "fish it out" I will leave up to you :-/ Is yours a wheel barrow type? I've only been in a car with that type of Bell system and maybe its cos I didn't go on a long drive so it never go that muted but I found it just too loud. I don't mind people looking at the car and thinking that looks nice but I got the distinct impression they were looking and thinking, cock :P. And that leads us nicely back to you fishing it out. ;)
  16. smithy wrote:How come everyone but me says Bell systems are loud? I've had mine on since the 80's and I'M NOT DEAF IN FACT IT'S QUITE A PLEASANT NOISE. No really, it is. It ain't loud. I've been in a GT6 with a bell exhaust and it's loud to point of bloody annoying. With the roof sloping all the way to the back of the car it's like you've literally strapped the thing to your head. I've also owned a few soft tops (not Triumphs) with lovely loud exhausts but with wind noise and stuff you can get away with a louder sound without going mad.   That Rimmers sport exhaust which looks a little similar to the standard back box but the two pipes come out the side produces a good sound and if I were in the market I'd be looking in that direction.
  17. smithy wrote: Next Royvoy, perhaps we could all get a thermometer out (not in an intrusive way you understand) and have a comparison. Perhaps we could all just do a 15 minute drive and then see who can squeeze the most sweat from their T shirt. We could do it like its a knockout and each have different coloured sweat as long as we don't have to dress up as giants and pretend we're Belgian :)

  19. Views on MX5 seats in a Spitfire..... They are normally pretty good and you can even see over the tops of tall trees :P
  20. I noticed the other day that my rear lights are very slightly different if you look at the brake light. The left hand side looks fairly rectangular when you look closely but the right side are much more rounded. This gives the effect when looking at the brake lights when they are on that the right looks circular and the left rectangular. I noticed when looking at Rimmers website that the two light assemblies they show are the same as mine with the left looking rectangular inside the lens and the right more rounded. What's this all about. Is it that Spitfires had different to GT6 and Ive got one of each or what? I've attached the Rimmers picture so I hope you can see what I mean.
  21. Well done John, I'm glad the car did the business. It looks great. I've still not found the courage to go more than about 150 miles in a single trip in mine. Small steps and all that. So well done for having the belief  :)

You must have the only cool looking brown car in existence :) My stainless front screen trim is in a box in the garage waiting for me to gain some courage. The trim thats currently on it is a bit worse for wear but no one seems to have a good story to tell about doing this job so I keep putting it off. Do I spy a trim strip on the underside of your sill?. If Im correct, is it chrome or body coloured as I have never seen a car with these still on.
