BigT-DK
I've stripped my engine for a rebuild - and had a look at the pistons today..depending on whether or not i need a rebore obviuosly pistons need changing..They are currently the "domed" type - engine is MKII ME 5....... HE engine.I thought about switching to "flat" type once the block is ready and I have the correct measurements....I seem to have read somewhere that the crowns can be machined if they are at different hights during first build-up...and thought that any machining would be easier with flat tops...input please! DJB_Harvey
Get rid of the domed pistons , they spoil combustion ...use flat top pistons and machine head down to earlier 2000 spec ie 3.300 inch...fit an early PI 132 BHP cam , flow the inlet manifold (witor) use a decent ! 6-3-1 manifold early spec needles in carbs and the engine will be transformed PS use a lightened flywheel ! BigT-DK
Flat top pistons it is then!I had planned on using a Vitesse/GT6 cam?My old exhaust manifold is cracked so I will need a new one, preferably free flowPaddocks do a TR6 sports branch manifold @£150, can this be made to fit?( would give me time to save up for the complete Witor system)
AlanChatterton
Nope, TR6 tubular manifold will not fit on the saloons. The primary pipes come down right where the front suspension crossmember is.Hence why there is a specific 631 for the saloons (flippin' expensive too, due to less of them being sold!)
