tg10002
Hi,failed MOT on wear to one of the rear wheel bearings on the rear. Inspecting it it looks like a typical case .. hub moves side to side but the half shaft centre bolt doesn't. Why did they not make it adjustable !!!!BEFORE I strip down the whole half shaft , trunnion etc. has anyone ever cured this without a complete strip down ?WD40 doing its job as we speak ....Have done this job before, but can't remember it was all too long ago !Thanks .. Nick Jones
Sounds like a complete strip down to me. Must be bad if the MoT man spotted it as the general layout makes detecting play in it quite hard. You might want to consider getting a complete halfshaft assembly as1. As you may know it is very hard to get the hub off without a proper, purpose made puller (not a 3 legged thing). If you do have access to the proper puller this is best done while it's still on the car unless you have very heavy work bench and large vice!2. Big play usually means the case hardening gone from the shaft where the roller bearing runs, which means another shaft in any case. Grease these bearings regularly and they last for agesGood luck
tg10002
Nick,I think you are right, I took the half shaft off yesterday afternoon & at this moment in time the Canley Classics recon units look the best option !!Thanks for the Reply ..
