I am rebuilding the engine on my 13/60 Estate and am presently refitting the pistons. Does anyone know if there is there a correct angular position for the gaps in the compression rings relative to the gudgeon pins? The instructions for fitting the bottom oil rings which came with them were very clear, but no mention of the compression rings. Information on the internet was quite conflicting. The only thing that was clear was that they should be at 180 degreees to each other. A friend with experience of rebuilding Mini engines told me it doesn't really matter where the gaps go as the rings rotate anyway when the engine is running.

Thanks for you replies, most helpful.

David, all the best for your upcoming trip, I've read the mongoltriumph stuff and it's absolutely amazing how much you've done on the Estate. Quite an inspiration to me as the C Posts on mine are just as bad, if you know of any with decent bottom halves anywhere please PM me or post on here.
