spanner size sump drain plug?

Hello folks, can anyone tell me the spanner size of the sump drain plug on my 1970 13/60 herald please?

Is it a hex or square? There's a chance it's not original. For the square plugs on my cars I find a 1/2" square drive a decent fit.

7/16 square, you can get 8 point sockets to fit which are really good if it's really tight, or if it's not too stubborn just use a 7/16 or 11mm open ended spanner. The gearbox filler and diff filler use the same plugs BTW....

It's square not hex unless it's not original... 7/16 square

If it's an original plug 1/2" x 7/16" AF open ended

I've got a new spare hex, for engine sump or gearbox, it is a 13/16". The hex currently fitted must be slightly bigger as I use a 22mm ring spanner on it, the spanner is quite short which helps dur to the tight space.

Yup, you need to get under and look at what's there.

The magnetic drain plug for the gearbox fits, worth doing. AND IT IS 3/4 Hex head
