MX5 Seats.

In all honesty, your best bet is either a specialist MX5 breaker (a few of theose about), or join some of the MX5 facebook groups. Of course, Ebay is going to produce a few.

Must say I don't recall seeing many in black leather. I managed to find a pair in red leather, a remarkably good match for Triumph Matador red. And if you are careful, you can fit them by chopping off the "ramped" bit of the MX5 runners, removing the "pins" leaving the holes though the runners, and enlarging the holes a little. Need something to pack the runners up, I used 1" box section. And then cap head bolts imperial bolts into the original floor fixings.

You don't say what car these seats are for, if it's for a TR there are conversion kits out there which allow you to fit the seats into the original floor fixing eg TR Trader https://www.trtrader.com/parts-lists/MX5-seat-brackets.htm .

One thing to consider is that whilst leather seats look good they do leave you with a sweaty back, I prefer fabric ones when using them in weather like this. I have fabric ones in a TR4 and leather in a TR6.

They are also cheaper to buy, when you find them

Thank you for your help. I shal look up the MX5 breakers. Unfortunately I’m not on facebook. Great to know how to modify the runners.

Dave. Thank you for the link, that’s also been helpful. I originally thought that I was looking for Mk1 seats but according to the link I should be looking for Mk2 ones as I would like the ones with adjustable headrests?

I had cloth ones in my Herald, replaced with leather and I prefer the cloth seats particularly in the hot weather.

My 2 original cloth seats (tomb style) are available free to anyone who want them. Some damage on the drivers side. Free but have to be picked up from Histon outside Cambridge.

Hi Mike.

That’s an interesting thought (cloth).

Also a very kind offer for your “tomb style “ seats. I am looking for the  sliding headrest type at the moment.

Many thanks.

Pete.
