johnny spit
Reaching out again for some guidance .... Again ! Due to a crack in my head , i've bought a second hand one , had it skimmed and now rebuilding. But the replacement head has very coked up valves with number 14496550 on the stem , whilst the valves from my cracked head have 144965. VL , I would like to use the valves from my cracked head as they look less pitted and very clean but is it possible to be able to just lapp them in ? or will i need to get these ground in to create a better mating fit ? or should i just go with the ones that came with the head ( allthough pitted and heavily covered in deposits ? ) Thanks
glang
Think theres also the valve guides to consider as these were originally reamed to suit the valve stems so might be tight or loose with replacements. With the seats you would know whether lapping is going to work fairly quickly because as soon as you start you'll see how good the contact is between the two. You can always go back to the original valves and continue by lapping those in instead....

Adrianb
I found a handy Tool in our Bathroom cupboard, When your cleaning off the stubborn deposits I used my Wife’s Sonic Plaque remover which worked wonders and didn’t scratch the surfaces. Obviously get your own and don’t tell my wife!
