sparky_spit
Details are now available for the BCC Santa Special on the 11th Dec. Please see below, use the email addresses as shown and if you want to contact either Rod or Colin by phone, please PM me for their phone numbers.Santa Special – 11th December The last in our occasional road events for 2016, introducing novices and beginners to the delicate art of finding ones way about a map in the dark, is in the hands of Rod Botteley. The event will feature about 40-50 miles of undamaging roads suitable for standard cars and should provide an entertaining evening for beginners and novices as well as the more long in the tooth. Navigation will be all be plotted at the start using grid squares and be relatively straightforward, although perhaps requiring some thought and care - with Rod providing help for novices and beginners if they need it. Then there will be some interesting roads for the drivers whilst keeping the navigators on their toes ensuring that the drivers on the correct route. None of the route will be timed on-the-road so there will be no need for excessive tearing about the countryside, although plotting at the start will be timed to provide a tie-breaker if needed. The route is all on O.S. 1:50,000 Landranger Series map 166. Rod says he has been out and bought the latest copy he could get but it appears to lack the edition code that has been the accepted means for the last 40 years. However, it does say "Revised July 2015, reprinted with new legend and cover February 2016". This will be the definitive edition for the event although Rod says he will endeavour to check the route out on previous editions such as C4. Start is at 5pm from the countryside car park just outside Streatley at 166/073½287. The slightly earlier start time is because the finish venue closes at 10.30pm. Finish is at The White Lion, Baldock (166/246337) where there are no parking restrictions on Sundays outside on the old main road. Questions and queries to Rod on xxxxxxxxx or at hbotteley@talktalk.net when you read this. Entries please to Colin Lewis on xxxxxxxxxx, colinlewis1@hotmail.co.uk, or via the Club’s Facebook page by 9pm on Friday 9th December as you may well not get Rod on his number in the few days before the event. Please leave a landline or mobile number (where Rod can reach you at the last minute!) just in case it turns foggy, snowy or icy on the day and he has to call the event off in the interests of safety. sparky_spit
Six CT crews contested the BCC Santa Rally last night, as guests of the guys at Bedford Car Club. Some did well, others must have had their maps upside down, but I think all enjoyed the warm, friendly relaxed attitude of the BCC ladies and gentlemen and had a great evening's run around the Bedfordshire lanes.Provisional results were given last night and, as soon as the official results are available, I'll post them here. Also, this will give final positions for the 2016 Rallies Mini Series, which I'll post here too.More importantly, last night's efforts may decide Driver, Navigator, and almost certainly the Area championship, so keep an eye open for these.I wonder why there were so many crews from Essex and North London there?.....
