supertouring
Hi,My dad has an Acclaim which has recently sprung a leek in the radiator. His local garage say that they cannot source a replacement. He only uses the car to potter about and so wants to keep it and not spend a fortune on a different car simply due to a radiator problem. It has only done about 30k so still has plenty of life left in it.Can anyone give me advice on where I can source a new/used radiator from? He is based in South Wales, I am in Manchester but any info from anywhere in the country would be useful. Thanks in advanceDai
Toledo Man
Are you sure it can't be repaired? Try your local radiator specialist which can be found in your local Yellow Pages. This car shares components with the Honda Civic of the same era so the radiator is probably the same. Try your local motor factor who might be able to get hold of radiators (my local one did) Rimmer Bros stock Acclaim parts. I know they might not be the cheapest but if they have one available you'll know it's the right part. If you're lucky your local MG-Rover dealer might have an original Unipart item that's been on the shelf for the last 2 decades! It's not been unknown to happen and it'll probably cost you peanuts as they'll want rid of it. Always worth a try. eBay is another place to try. I got a Haynes manual for my Acclaim for only 99p! You might get a bargain. The only other sources of Acclaim parts are Barry McGrath (the Club librarian's husband) and the Acclaim consultant Christopher Green (contact details for both are in the mag if you're a member)
beardmidget
Personally I have used the Lancashire Motor Radiator Co (based in Liverpool) and their service was excellent! It was pretty cheap for a re-core and a fix up. Obviously this is a bit far from South Wales- but I'd have thought someone would be offering a similar service down there. DaveInBracknell
I have seen new ones on the web for £98 + Delivery, cannot remember the name of the shop but it is one where you can select a Man or Woman to guide you around the website if that helps. ::)

Toledo Man
Brand new rads sometimes crop up on eBay. Mine only cost me £25 plus £10 P&P. The seller of mine is a regular and I'm sure she will have another rad for sale soon.
maddogguk
think the best bet is to have a new core fitted for about £70.00 then u know it will last quite a while...my advise is dont go buyin' second hand as it may only last a couple of months..but if u drop on a good 1 it could last u quite a while. AdamSindrey
Is this a red Aclaim from Briton ferry? I keep my Dolomite 1850 and parts of a 1300 dolly(!) just down the road from him if so.... ;DWhat about the egg trick or is it worse off than that?
