  1. The only problem I see with having a dorset stop as last stop is you still have to do some of the m25.I dont see how that can change? I liked the route this year....I wont pretend I did it 100% correctly but certainly most of it. The nicest thing about didcot that I see is that another club wants to join in and help. I really dont see how you can say no to offers like that it must be good for the clubs in general?

  3. Doug I really enjoyed it...I said to Matt if the worse that happens is a broken headlight I'll be more than happy! Guess I'm more than happy then! 8) As for the Crask inn what an experience....its like someones living room with a bar in it!
  4. I've now done 5 round britains 3 in my spitfire.....this one was different. The weather just made it so different we did so much with the roof down.....I worked it out at about 1020 miles give or take a bit. If it was worked out in time it was probably more than 60% of the run.....all done in a car that I felt like giving up on last week when everything was going wrong. The people were the greatest...all of them! The amount of people that wished me well knowing what I went through just days before really was unbelievable! So the answer to whats my best bit.....getting to the end and the worse problem on the entire run was a broken headlight when a mk1 saloon driver flicked a rock up ;D mentioning no names ;).....although I did have  a lot of fun following Doug Thompson down from JOG  ;D

Oh, and frequent progress reports to Glenn and Dan  ;D This is one group of people that I'd love to see on the run! Glenn I know is desperate to do this event .....so desperate he tries to marshall all of scotland! ;D Next time!!
  6. I think the question everyone wants answered although I'm not sure this is the place.....in fact maybe I wont.... No I'm going to brave it and ask..Jason did your exhausts make it home?

  8. Bill I believe this has been a very low percentage of DNF....actually Tim says that in his initial post. The standard of cars was very good this year but I think the weather made a huge difference as water obviously plays a big part in failures on our cars.
  9. Lands end was great Tim! I think the stop on the way up the A30 was perfect and just what was needed for that difficult section. Could we have the same weather next time aswell .....please ;D
  10. Mark and Andy made it in very good time. I left them eating their dinner in the plough at about 8.45pm. What a great effort I know Mark and Andy are very grateful.....and tired but in so happy to have made it! Well done Grayfox!!
  11. Is that it Andy just a rubber seal and the pipe pushes in and the nut squeezes it up?
  12. Oh and went to lean the mixture off and the pipe popped out the bottom of the float bowl so now needs a new bit I guess? Wont stop leaking....
  13. Changed the oil today for valvoline then my mate arrived to help out.....I then started it up and it popped the seal in the oil pump.Oil everywhere except in the engine. Tried again....same thing happened. Fitted old filter and it was fine.....dodgy filter I thought so I moved on. Adjusted and checked front bearings and started investigating the noise on the rear end. Tried some shocks on loan and drove up the road.....pop oil everywhere again. So we pushed it home as it was only a little way up the road, after a bit of downhill I thought I should jump out and help push.....and caught my ankle under the wheel. Agony and a wrenched knee too.... Finally solved the oil problem when my mate found the adaptor coming out of the block. I didnt know it could happen and I certainly wouldnt let it happen again! As for the shocks....no change so back on with my spax and new bushes....no change. The only thing it can be is a bit of movement in the spring as we checked everything else!!
  14. Yup they worked really well, the stretch from Goradano to lands end they were an absolute godsend....if only youd remembered to put the bungs in the floor ;D

Nick_Jones wrote: That's not good........  do you have an oil pressure gauge?  If so, what does it show?  What happens if you spin the engine on the starter with the rocker gear off and plugs out?  Should get oil coming out of the feed hole at the back of the head...... will take quite a bit of cranking though......  External rocker feed pipe could be the weapon of absolutely last resort (!!) - but only if oil pressure is ok. Nick With all rocker gear off theres oil at the head. The rockers are all clear as James came round tonight and we built up another shaft after thorough cleaning. We can pump oil through it and have even seen oil coming through the oil holes with it fitted. The problem is it doesnt always seem to do it. With the bolt at the back of the head removed we have seen oil come out but again not consistent. James did manage to remove some crud from the rocker feed hole and this is when things improved. How much oil should we see at the head? If this is just a build up of carbon how else might we clear it? Help :'(
  16. I've got a gauge but no way of connecting it.... If I whizz it over with the rocker gear off theres nothing from the hole at all :( Oil light goes off though....
  17. Think unless something happens like a miracle my cars out.... Proper fed up as spent a small fortune so far but time restraints mean I cant see how I can get it fixed in time. Theres no oil at the top of the engine what so ever! :'(
  18. Sat here feeling decidedly peed off! Heard a bit of a rattle on the way up today so pulled over and thought maybe I was imagining it.....sounded like loud tappets. I'd readjusted the tappets this morning so it seemed odd but starnger things have happened. I removed the rocker cover and the revs went up.....tried all sorts and made no difference. Eventually put cover back on...and revs went up again. Decided to press on and got onto the m40 then the car died and I had to coast to the hard shoulder. Whipped a plug out and found that it had a spark so pulled fuel pipe off and no fuel. I'd just replaced the pump due to an oil leak from the body on the old one but removed the pump and found the arm had sheared off inside the block. The only spare part I had with me was the old pump.....I fitted it and we were off(Mark Bland was following in his S) Arrived a bit late at the meeting but travel home ok although I still thought I could here something. When pulling in for fuel my car sounded terrible.....I'm hoping its something like an inlet manifold leak but as it stands I dont know whats going to happen next  :'(
