    Milky oil

Are all the hoses getting hot?....bottom and top? any cold spots on the rad and do you have a fan fitted(although still shouldnt overheat that quickly). Could have a huge airlock..... Oops just re read your post about the top hose.... Question for clever people.....if the water pump had failed could this cause something similar? How quick would poor timing cause an engine to boil?

    Milky oil

I wouldnt be panicking, drop the oil out and drain the water then change the head gasket for a quality item (payen). These engine are pretty robust and the likely hood of you having done serious damage just running it up with no load are pretty slim. However now you know dont run it at all! ;) Good luck! Alex
  3. Graham I'm not sure if you saw my issues prior to the rbrr but high oil pressure caused mine to dump its oil from the oil filter seal....maybe yours is doing something similar? Have you checked the PRV to make sure its not been uprated? There's two spring lengths.....the longer the higher the oil pressure. Alex

  6. Claire and Nigel hill retired Claires stag in 2008...I think? Due to a timing chain issue if my memory serves me correct......they then went home and continued in another car

  11. I dont know what the mileage was but I just worked mine out on odd tanks.
  12. I thought about checking my plugs but decided its running I'll leave it ;D I wonder if its the fact your engine is tighter than mine ;D My car has 165 70's and 3000rpm is about 70......
  13. These would have been handy on the RBR as I smashed a light. The stone went straight through and smashed the bulb too! The hole in the light is huge and the stone inside is pretty big so they would have saved me. Fortunately Tim Hunt kindly loaned me a spare light unit saving me from having to tape a torch on my bonnet ;D

Danny I would have expected you to get more ...do you have overdrive? what engine do you have etc? :-/ Your mpg is very close to the gt6's figures.....mine has always got at least 40+ mpg on a rbrr.Ask anyone who knows me or my car and they'll tell you I like to work it.
  15. Have to say both my co driver and I found Anne to be lovely! When we were talking to you both outside the plough her enthusiasm was just infectious. So glad you both enjoyed it as much as the rest of us,and she's right they really are a great bunch of people that do the run!
  16. We didnt really pay too much attention to economy but the odd tank full we worked out for something to do. We stuck to nice steady speeds and didnt rev the engine past 2500 as we're just not the type. With our slow and steady approach we believe we conserved fuel which in turn helps save the enviroment .....ok if you believe that ;D We worked it out to be early 40's on average although at times maybe a little more not bad considering the roof was down for a fair time and we occasionally went quite quickly ;).

Having done the RBRR I volunteered to `put something back in to the game` and marshalled at Blyth and Tebay The classic car mag reporter/editor said to me " I really enjoyed this evening and Ive been so impressed with the organisation and checkpoint arrangements that I would love to come again" He went away like a kid with a new toy at Christmas .....anybody want to do it again next week ?? ;D   I cant do next week I'm sleeping but maybe the following week?
