A dronco one on an angle grinder stripped my whole rear wing in about 5 minutes. If your talking about the plastic type I found them practically hopeless when stripping my new bonnet of its black paint.I tried nitromors and all that did was make the bonnet wet and dint remove a bit of paint no matter how long I left it! In the end I just had to sand the lot down with a power sander.

  3. Mine were mk3,however I would think all the later cortina's would use the same as the floor pans are identical. They are basically flat sliding runners and only about 10-15mm deep so add very little height. Good luck
  4. Ive got corbeau classics fitted in my car(not for much longer as just rebuilt standard seats so selling the buckets). I used cortina seat runners as theyre very low, this enabled me to have some fore and aft adjustment. This also meant bolting to the floor was simple.....you could mark out the holes on cardboard/hardboard then transfer it across!

    Adjusting tappets

    Engine bridge piece

5/16 helicoil kit just ordered.....now we wait. Need to do this before refitting front pulley and bolt so that I can easily turn the engine over to do tappets then fit rad and then add water...think thats it..........except getting it started and the new cam run in 8)

    Engine bridge piece

I've got a 3/8 helicoil kit in the garage from when I helicoiled my head studs. Is there room on the bridge piece for one of these? It would appear its the next size up??

    Engine bridge piece

Ok let me ask that differently.....if I go in to far,can I do any damage? ;D

    Engine bridge piece

How deep can you go in any ideas? Thanks Alex
  10. I've discovered that the very bottom bolt in my timing cover wont tighten up. I'm assuming the threads gone in the bridge piece? What options do I have.....are there any other than a helicoil type insert? I'd hoped to have it all back together by sunday for the CT national but not so sure now.I'm getting the "what more money!" from the wife :-/ I think I'm right in saying its a 5/16 bolt? I did wonder about using a metric tap and new metric bolt would this be an option? Thanks Alex

    Adjusting tappets

Ok I've fitted a new cam and a different head, the heads been torqued down and I've just put the rockers on. Is there a base setting for the adjustments so I dont spend an age trying to get the gap right? Obviously the adjustments are completely out of whack, I just thought maybe its screws all up or half way or something? Thanks Alex
  13. My spitfire battery clamp is completely different to those pictured. Mine fits across the top face of the battery......mines a dual circuit brake version if that changes things?
  14. Ok time to look stupid again....my car has had enjoying rattle.I thought it was pinking but could this have been cam rattle? Itdidnt do it under load more at mid throttle.....
  15. They do appear to be deeper on one and two by about half the thickness?....
  16. I'd have settled for valve clatter...mine couldnt really clatter as the gaps kept closing up ;D
  17. Ok I've pulled my head off with suspected valve seat recession as I keep having to adjust the valves....about every 300 miles. What am I looking for to confirm? One exhaust valve is very white and one a little bit(1&2)the others are black. I can push number one down easily and pull the valve about with one hand. I've also found that one of the followers is very pitted and more than one other has little indents in the edges so not fully circular.....is this normal? What else can/should I be checking? oh and cant spend loads of money so should I just whack on the replacement head and plead ignorant? Thanks Alex
  18. I have a 13" motolita and have to say I love it. Perfect size and I love the chunky rim......did have to tweak the indicator arms etc as mine has a small dish unlike the original wheel. I'm 5ft 9 ish and the fit is perfect for me.....sorry cant help with the boss but take a look at the motolita website they list it all. Oh and I've driven cars with mountney wheels.....theyre nothing even close!! ;)

    Cylinder heads

I'm looking for information about cylinder heads. I've been offered a 1300 head off a 13/60 herald also a 1500 head but dont know what differences there are between herald, spitfire 1300,spifire 1500 or dolomite etc heads. Does anyone know where I may find this information? I'm looking to fit another head possibly as a temporary measure with a view to maybe rebuilding mine. Anyone got any ideas? Thanks Alex
  20. Marks car is likely to confuse the issue. I believe when Mark had the box built the intention was to run it with a 1500 however its only been used with his small bearing 1300. Initially this was hard work but after changing to methanol and a 4.11 its so different! No doubt Mark will be along later to correct my errors but he does like this combination now although as he says its never going to beat things away from the lights.
