2016 Charity: Guide Dogs
cook1e replied to Tim Bancroft's topic in Round Britain Reliability Run (RBRR)
It foxed me as well Tim, I linked my page to the Club Triumph RBRR 2016 event when I set it up and thought it was all sorted and only found out it wasn't showing up from this thread. Then after playing with the website I found that the page needs to be linked to the Club Triumph Team as well as the event, not very intuitive TBH... -

Seems Strange, my one has been set up for a number of weeks and has donations on it? https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/FlyingLog I did set it up using Tim's instructions, and the page shows it's linked to the event "Event: Club Triumph Round Britain Reliability Run 2016, 07 Oct 2016 to 09 Oct 2016" so looks to be set up correctly -
Done... I was sorting out my spares kit this afternoon so very timely...

Hi All, Just booked my Hotel for the Sunday night. After the terrible experience of using the Novatel at the Club Dinner I wanted to avoid going there unless absolutely necessary. So I'm booked in at the Premier Inn, only a mile away from the Novatel and even better, dirt cheap, £31.50 for a twin room, nearly £30 cheaper than room only at the Novatel! Also I hope to be able to avoid having strangers walking in on me naked and being locked out of my room with no-one at reception to sort it like at the Novatel! Get in quick if you want to get a cheap room there as they usually only have a certain number of cheap deals for each hotel.

I'm a complete carnivore so lucky ok for me, but I suspect there may be some veggie crew members in some of the cars? Better cater for them I reckon -

Who's got what to do for 2016?
cook1e replied to GreenV8Machine's topic in Round Britain Reliability Run (RBRR)
The Flying Log now has an MOT ready for the RBRR. It failed a few weeks back on in-balanced brakes and some corrosion around the front subframe rear mounts on the pseudo chassis legs. It had a new front caliper on one side before the RBRR last time, so I rebuilt the other one with a new seal and replaced the pads with a new set of green stuff. I also replaced the rear shoes and mucked about with the rear adjusters. Got the chassis legs repaired which ended up a bigger job than anticipated as the body above the legs was also rusted through. The MOT place also had a look at the rear brakes as they were still not up to scratch. Turned out that the adjuster wheels were on the wrong sides, ie left adjuster in the right drum and vice versa. I've only ever stripped down one rear brake at a time so the previous owner must have swapped them. This meant that operating the handbrake was slackening rather than tightening the rear brakes! I'd just assumed that the auto adjusters weren't working as they are a crap design! Anyway that's all done now. Jobs to do apart from giving it a darn good service and tune up. 1. Change both front wheel bearings 2, Sort out one of the inner tie rod ball joints on the steering rack as it has play but not enough to fail the MOT. 3. Make up a skid plate to go around the rear exhaust box. Last time on the RBRR the exhaust box was grounding out on the rough roads in the wilds of Scotland. The rear box hangs pretty low on a 1500 (or 1850) Dolomite and with a boot full of spares and 3 largish blokes on board the car was sitting low. Idea is to make a skid plate "sacrificial" wrap to go under the rear box so that it takes the brunt of the scraping rather then the box otherwise it may well wear through! 4. Try and sort out the fuel gauge which gets stuck at just under half full, it's not the gauge or sender as I've changed both (in fact I've tried 3 different senders). It's not the voltage stabilizer as that's kicking out 10v max as it should. Must be something wrong with the tank. It went wrong on the last RBRR after about 1700 miles and we ran out of fuel, don't know how a tank can just go suddenly wrong! Wgen it runs out of fuel there appears to be at least a couple of Gallons left so it's like the pickup in the tank is sitting too high.- 374 replies

I've been using one of those for a few years on the GT^ now, works very well, I always found the gunson carbalancer a bit temperamental and rather mickey mouse. The synchrometers (or snail as I like to call it!) are much better TBH. They often come up on ebay a fair bit cheaper than everywhere else, think I got mine for £25 when most places were charging nearer £40.. You may find my Blog Article below about showing my Boy how to tune a GT6 including the Synchrometer amusing! http://cook1e.blogspot.co.uk/2012/04/educating-my-boy.html

Yeah, the Formula Wheels are really sought after and not easy to get hold of. They do look the part on an early Triumph though.

Looks in nice condition Mark, I'm sure it will sell if the price is right. If you have an ebay account I suggest you check out the sold listings for Steering wheels over the last few months and check out actual sold rather than listed price of wood rim Motolitas that did sell. You probably don't need to be pickey about it being triumph one but it will give you a good guide of what they actually sell for so you ask an ammount that will sell but make a decent price. Gut feel in that condition I'd have thought you ought to be able to get at least 50 quid for it, brand new they are available for anything from £99 (listed by a Mini dealer c/w boss for a mini) to a couple of hundred, seems to be a lot of variation in price depending where you buy them!

Just in case anyone's interested, I note that there is an autotest at the Retroshow that is running alongside TriumFest at Santa Pod on Sunday, free to enter as well. The website shows times and entrants from previous years, there have been a few Spitfires in the tables a few years previous... I imagine it's pretty competitive with the Ford, Mini, VW and Jap car boyz.... http://www.retroshow.co.uk/autotest.php

My article in the TSSC mag by the way glad it's there in the archives. The early and late mk2 cross bars are different, it depends whether you have the long rear deck as per the early mk2s or the shorter rear deck as per the late mk2. The late one is a simpler construction and is the same as the mk3, the early one is more re complex and also requires shorter front rear deck boards to be fitted.... The photo is of my mk3 and is the later type of cross bar....

You are correct, the original threaded bezel does sit within the hole Don... It's a deep bezel not and the threaded bit is like a tube nut arrangement

Magic photos .com do quite a lot of Triumph events as it's run by Triumph people... Had some nice action shots of my GT6 from them at a couple of the Prescott Triumph Marque Days, they were selling CDs of photo sets for each car pretty cheaply. I reckon you could do a deal with them, where a % of the proceeds go to the charity. -
I like the idea of the larger Thread on the Jigsaw ones, addresses the weak thread. Also I've heard that the Canley ones sometimes need the back of the upright dressing back to clear the CV joint, depends on the upright, some do some don't. The way that the Jigsaw ones have a CV with a 45 degree chamfer on them will probably get around this issue too.
