  1. Thanks chaps,my local car spares gaff is quite large and they normally go by your reg but I don't want a dynamo
  2. Will it fit a 2.5 with HS6 carbs, not sure if I'd read that a "A" type won't fit, quite happy to be wrong
  3. What alternator do I ask for at my local car spares, looking at pictures it looks like an ACR but which one 15-16-17 or 18
  4. Cheers mike Busy now I'll sort it out later when I'm home
  5. Mike,    I've seen that before, but only glanced through it,I'm a typical bloke :-"I don't need to read the instructions,I've seen the picture and I know how's it's supposed to look" then cop the hump when it goes wrong and go down the pub, meanwhile the wife reads the instruction and puts the wardrobe together on her own ???? I think this navigating lark is a case of the more you do the better you become,I just like to think or know that I'm making progress. If any one has a set of novice clues and a map with the route marked out so i can check I'm doing it correctly from a previous rally then I'd love to have a go at doing it at home and possibly learn a bit more Anyone who reads the last couple of posts I've posted please dont take any offence at what I'm saying, it's only my opinion and I am really trying to become better at these events but I and others are only capable of learning this at a curtain speed as every rally I've done so far seems to use different types of plotting I'll get there in the end ????
  6. What a day Started off badly,we had to be given a pointer on the first section, I think a few of the novices had to be given a slight push. Then we were off the next two sections seemed to go ok. Nigel threw a wobley by only wanting to use one of his carbs,a quick float lid removal along with the dash pots,a quick blast of carb cleaner down the jet tubes and he behaved him self for the rest of the day. Then we found that by the time the forth section had been almost plotted, time had ran out and we had about 10 mins to get to the finish point, cut and run. Once again there was about 8 or so methods of navigating for the novices to use,I still think as novices there should only be 3 or 4 methods, after all we are NOVICES, if it wasn't for one team just telling us how the "square with numbers around the outside"works we would still be sitting there scratching our heads (section 4) It would have been helpful for the novices to have been given the checkpoint locations on our clues so that if nothing else we would know we was at least facing the correct way ish ! On arrival at the finish we was totally dejected at not being able to complete section 4,we just wanted to go home, after a chat with the Scrapman he persuaded us to go into the pub as others had struggled. We came third in class ! On the whole it was an enjoyable day out, full of ups, downs and up again. Jon   Thanks for an eventful day out,now I've mellowed out a bit and I got a trophy, it proves to me and Radders that he/we can work some things out but we still need help. I will do more events,I may need more help ????

    Pi dizzy

Alec I don't even want to pretend that I know anything about advance curves, all I'm going by is this chart. My engine is 2.5 Pi cam 6-3-1 and sport system S inlet manifold with HS6 carbs I've been told a pi dizzy would be good to go with the pi cam

    Pi dizzy

Today I got a pi dizzy (numbers agree) from a local chap, there's no play in the shaft but there's also no vacume advance, as I've got a couple of other crappy dizzys can I fit one of their vacuum things to it or is it not needed. I've looked on eBay and there's a dizzy and metering unit for sale and the dizzy hasn't got a vacume advance thing on it.
  9. I'll leave the dizzy drive as it is for now then I've been useing a snap on strobe light, you turn a dial to the setting you want and once the engine is running TDC Mark lines up with the timing mark and is bang on and steady.
  10. Why does it matter that the dizzy drive gear is installed as per manual. If it's just thrown in the cam will still turn it and as long as the oil pump drive is lined up then the oil pump will work. The dizzy can only fit the drive gear one way which would mean that the rota arm can only line up in a curtain place when at TDC,on mine that's not the place that the manual states but does it mater where number 1 is on the dizzy as long as the firing order is then followed from the new position of number 1 Or am totally wrong and it really does matter
  11. Then knees bent arms stretched  rah rah rah 😄

    Carb kits

Cheers chaps, I haven't done anything yet as one injured finger has taken priority at the moment.

    Carb kits

I think I'm going to refurb my carbs,I've got a small amount of fuel leaking around the main jet housing. I'm not sure if there's any seals in there or wether it's just flooding because the fuel level is too high in the bowls. The carbs still have the wax thing on the bottom so I thought if I give them a refurb it will eliminate some possible faults. Am I correct in thinking the carbs are HS6's on a 2.5 ? Where is the best place to obtain the kit from, I've been hearing mumblings about turner carbs recently and there are cheaper kits on eBay. What's people's thoughts on current suppliers ?
  14. Fine,no problem. When "Iggy" helped me bleed the clutch he thought I wasn't getting anywhere, when I checked it was ok, he's pedal is quite heavy compared to mine
  15. Oh nuts, that's me and Radders up the swanney then ????????
  16. I'll be at home, but no doubt I'll trot along to wherever most of you lot are staying for a meet and drink
  17. I think my foot dip switch is playing up, having fitted a light relay loom im finding that when on dip beam I'm using the foot switch to switch to main beam the headlights all go out 🤔 I've checked the original bulb plug that's now the trigger for the relay loom and when the foot switch is clicked there's no power at the plug for either dip or main, if clicked a few times then power is appearing back to dip and somtimes the main,I can only assume it's the foot switch dicking about Can it be serviced/cleaned or is it a chuck away item.
  18. Outer lights done,so I now have dip beam and half of main beam on relays 😏 I need to get a drill big enough to make a hole in the back of the inner back bowl so I can poke the conector through. The wires are run,I just need to make the hole and I'm not sure if I'll need to fit different bulb conectors for the halogen bulbs, when I fitted the halogen convertion I seem to recall the inner and outer bulbs were different as one was dip and main and the other was just main. At least the hard work is done Edit :- Just realised if I have to change the bulb conectors then I can just poke the wires through the small original hole before I fit the new conectors. I'll have to pop the fronts off to have a look when I get time
  19. eBay, can't remember how much but something like £10 for the two !
  20. Cheers Colin, that's tomorrow's job sorted then 🙂
  21. Pete There's nothing wrong with my mechanical pump, it's just the pipe that screws into it on the carb side needs a new "olive" at the moment I've (Radders did it) got Ptfe tape sealing it. It's was just a case of shall I fit an electric pump and run new fuel hoses to the carb or try and bugger about and fix the real problem 🤔 You know how it is with doing so called upgrades, there was only a dodgy follower or cam lobe on my 2ltr engine so I yanked it out and then bought two 2.5 engines and spent 7 months and way too much money to get a good one running 😀
  22. Having purchased two of these headlight relay looms and add to the fact I'm electric dummy I need to clear up a couple of things 🤔 Blue wires :- earth Big red :- battery live Yellow sockets go onto headlights:- as I've got 2 looms one loom on the inner and one for the outer Black socket :- I'm pointing at it :-I plug one of the original headlight sockets into it which will act as a trigger for the new looms relays
  23. Cheers Phil, I was looking at some £30 ones on "the bay" and was just wondering if anyone had tried one.
  24. Any recommendations for a reasonable priced electric fuel pump for a 2.5, for SU carbs the running preasure seems to be 2-3 lb on most electric jobbies seem to run at a minimum of 4/6 psi
