  2. According to Sue's satnav my 4A speedo is spot on at all speeds up to the Motorway and dual carriageway NSL (don't know how accurate the Garmin is though). I took a recent opportunity to check the odometer against kilometre posts on a decent stretch of the M4 and found it to be under-reading by just 0.3%. Speedograph Richfield did an excellent job when they overhauled the intrument some 40 years ago! Tim

  4. You don't need to come in a Triumph Adrian to qualify for a free pass that will admit you and one passenger. However, if yu=ou do come in a modern daily driver you would need to park with the public, not on the CT stand. Time's ticking, I do hope you are not too late to apply - give it a go. Tim

    We have now been given details of Mel's funeral, to take place in Wales on Wednesday 13th July (see attachment). At present John Millidge and I plan to attend to represent C.T. It will be 'family flowers only' with donations in Mel's memory requested for Thames Valley Air Ambulance.     You cannot be serious- I hope! With 24yo + tyres you are definitely on borrowed time! Any vehicle with > 8 seats will fail an MoT for a tyre older than 10 years at time of test. Cannot see logically why an ordinary car should be treated differently and expect this max 10yr age requirment will be extended to them Tim
  13. Try ClassicLine Howard. The TR has been with this company for several years now, very competitive premium including UK and European breakdown recovery and homestart. Had the two daily drivers with this company too and a claim last year in relation to Sue's Honda Jazz was efficiently dealt with, ClassicLine recovered costs in full from the other (guilty) party's insurers so no effect on our NCB.   16. What fantastic history and provenence Richard. It seems as if all that is missing is Richard Hurdwell's inside leg measurement!! Since this is the only road going TR8 worked on by BL Motorsport it would be highly appropriate for it to be at Gaydon on 10th July if at all possible since the BL/BMC day will incorporate a celebration of Abingdon's activities (see attached).   17. I am sure Bob Train was in the silver car. He is standing next to it in the last pic and I took a picture of him standing in it while videoing other entrants' cars as we left the last control at Fleet Services for the Broadfields Garage finish. Unfortunately I cannot find this pic but attach one of MHP 404V taken on the run by my co-driver Mike Hockaday (this was the first of our 17 RBRRs together so far) and one of a much younger Chairman at JoG. It is great that NWK 988W is in the Club Richard and would be good to see it on some events. How about the 2023 RBRR? Better start saving now for the fuel!! Incidentally I see that Derek gave the reg of your car as -988V on p124 of his magnum opus, strange since he proofread it. On a weekend away in Chester in the early 80s by chance I spotted an original RHD TR8 in BRG with a tan soft top in the car park. I wonder if this was -988W. I spoke to the driver, who lived in Hertfordshire, but lost contact and can't recall his name. Tim PS don't ask me to post pics the right way up!!

I chose to offset 3,000 miles anticiapted usage, would have happily paid for 5,000, which would have covered the highly fuel efficient daily driver this year as well but this bracket, although expected to be added, is not yet available. I hope the sticker, displayed with 'tax' disc as in picture, elicits some comment from members of the public so I have the chance to tell the story and correct misapprensions on classic car usage. It might look like your Chairman was a little late to the party but in my defence the sticker took over 3 weeks to arrive after my order. Blast this software, it upends a picture from my iPhone but if I rotate it 180 degs befrore posting then rather than being reversed it still posts the wrong way up!

  20. Thanks for that, another good source for 5.6mm i.d. R9 hose for SU carburettor unions on our engines. Tim
  21. Yes a combination of 1/4 and 5/16" hoses are used. However, I had difficulty in getting a leak proof seal on carburettor connections on my car with hose of nominal 1/4" i.d. I sourced some 5.6mm i.d hose to R9 spec from www.machine7.com. This is recommended for VW models with 6mm o.d. fuel connecftions. It's a snug fit on our cars but easily encouraged with a little rubber grease if necessary. I used clips for additional peace of mind of course. Tim

    What Antifreeze?

    +1 for Blue ethylene glycol type. I go for the concentrate, meeting BS6580-1992 and dilute 50/50 with filtered rainwater. I look for the best deal on ebay. I change the coolant without fail every two years and find that it drains readily out of the radiator and block as clean as a whistle. I carry some 50/50 nix on board in case top up is ever needed.
  23. I make that £3.96 each Roger and if it included delivery that's the same price Ben paid. It's a minefield out there! All things considered though I wasn't unhappy to solve a longstanding problem for just £4.95. Tim
