  1. Well, late to the party (after you've bought a kent engine), but there's a Spit on ebay at the moment with a CVH engine so it does fit: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/162158869803 Make sure you post pictures up here of how you go about fitting the Kent engine in case people want to try in the future
  2. What specifically would need upgrading in the brake department? Would a set of Mintex pads do the trick? I hear the stock setup with a set of those is actually rather good.
  3. I saw that car at Lydden Hill last year and had a chat to the owner great chap who's been running Spitfires for ages in various Modsports categories. He's moved the whole front suspension assembly ~6" or so forwards to improve handling and allow the AP1 S2000 lump to fit under the stock bonnet. Bloody quick little machine Oh, he was impressed with Marcus'/my rear suspension setup when I explained it to him
  4. Interesting, and good point. I'll definitely do a bit of strengthening if I ever need to use that technique
  5. I've bought a load of Valencia Blue for my MkIV, but since then I've decided I really like Mallard. I'll console myself by painting this one Valencia and then the next one Mallard Oh, I'm also one of these weirdos that likes Saffron Yellow...although it could do with a tad more red to bring it to a sort of burnt-orangey-yellow colour...
  6. I have wondered whether a good way to package a side-exit exhaust would be to cut the sill along its length, flip it inside out to make a concave sill rather than a convex one and run it through that space. It's something I wanted to try on an XJS as a way of avoiding the convoluted route the exhaust takes above the rear suspension unit, but then people suddenly decided that XJS' were worth more than their weight in scrap and they've moved out of my price range...
  7. Looking great! Must feel nice to take it for a spin
  8. Yeah I thought it might be a Peugeot 205 rad but the bottom hose is wrong again. Not a foggy, although it does look like you could fit it to a Spit if you really wanted to...
  9. Not sure where's the best forum to put this in, but this came with a job lot of Spit Mk3 parts. I originally assumed that it was a Spit wide rad but looking at pics it's definitely not. Help!
  10. What a brilliant idea I'll try that with mine when it comes around to it. Watching with interest.
  11. Bugger! I'm missing out on that much! Must see if there's areas I can take a grinder to on mine then...

  13. Also, your spacer should help with the only real failing of the alloy backplate (splitting at the bottom two bolt holes).
  14. My water pump housing is from them. I haven't tried it on a running engine yet so can't comment as to whether it works well or not. Ordered from them online so I can't say as to service in person either. If you can wait til September (hopefully) then I might be able to tell you

  16. Good to know should be about the p2w of a Delta Integrale!
  17. Hmmm, I've got a set of the high backed seats that came with my second Spitfire. With the seat frame below they'd be way too high, but they seem to sit quite nicely into the floor pressing without the frame in place. If you just bolted them directly to the floor  you'd lose the adjustability fore/aft but I think they'd be in the right position height-wise...
  18. Ah so most of the places I've already done haven't done the outriggers or the bit over the diff yet though so they're definite options
  19. Out of interest where are you punching holes? Just wondering if there's anywhere I've been missing
  20. Good link, with a lot of good information, especially towards the end. I definitely agree with the 'want quality, then pay for quality' attitude as that's what brings high quality parts to market so I may just go for the Canleys VL (with a modified carrier) simply to support its continued availability. I'd still like to experiment though, just in case continued supply becomes a problem (and I've already got myself 3 sets of used VLs that I otherwise have no use for). Drilling, tapping and winding in a machine screw to strengthen the VL would be an option. Another thought. What about cutting off a balljoint taper from another VL and welding it on in place of the trunnion. Then you could mount something like the pictured balljoint onto the wishbone with minimal welding. I'd have to be damn sure of my welding though, and get it sonically tested....
  21. Officially they're rated at 280lb-ft, but there's plenty of much higher powered RV8s out there that run them quite happily. There's a number of revisions of the LT77 that will probably have different torque capabilities (later suffixes being stronger than earlier ones, and the R380 being stronger still), but even the earliest ones should be up to all but an insanely built Triumph V8.
  22. Oh no! I've mixed up my MGs and my VWs. It's a flat-brimmed hat, not a flat cap
  23. The GF rolls her eyes despairingly at it too In reality, better to think about trunnions than don a flat cap and try and get my Veedub to scrape along the ground like the stereotypical 25-year-old car enthusiast
