  1. There is a pic someone posted on a thread of mine a few weeks ago of the tool.... Seems to be mixed views on trim before or after screen fit to car.....???
  2. I find ebay a great  soutce for stuff like this - just type in what you want....literally  :) unless you have brakes specialist locally
  3. 8940 wrote:Hi what could i expect to pay for the second option                Thanks Errr......a lot  :P
  4. Adaptors are available, but better with right end (probably imperial) to match cylinder (looks right/neater and less joins) Simple flaring kit is about £20 and worth the spend (get one with the pipe cutter too) so you can bespoke your pipe runs (unless youre a 'must be original' bloke) Cheers S
  5. Right, well.....i definitely need to replace screen seal - it was raining a little on way back from RR session and was leaking in at the lower corners....coming under screen between seal. The edges of the seal down both sides do not touch the screen - you can see edge of screen The seal is way too big (long) for the screen perimeter (as said earlier.....more crap parts) ...it was baggy when on screen. Looking at VW bay van seals (plain black) - anyone used any seal other than 'standard'...??? Cheers S
  6. On my GT6 mk3 which i have got HS6's with DS dashpots the front one is still uber tight under bonnet - i have circa 1/4 inch clear stationary with engine as low as can go and bonnet highest front locstion.... also spitfire throttle cable and simple bracket off inlet manifold on mine. They doo look good though  8) 1.75 Stroms are another option from something like a TR4 (think they are slightly shorter than later cars..???)
  7. Just noticed you're in Irlam - They are just past old trafford (man utd) on way in to manchester city centre.....could be worth a phone call or drop-in if you are passing
  8. I ended up having to buy new one after fiddling with the 2 that i have....also replaced both flasher relays too (before buying switch) Might be worth checking those other relays.... Do the directional flashers work..? £40 is very steep - nearly every other hazard switch for any other marque is much cheaper. (might try taking them into PF Jones and see if they can do some magic)
  9. Not book related, but rebuild/resto related... DO NOT throw anything away until AFTER you have finished - no matter how rusty/bent/perished....very useful for reference or patterns for new etc. I just went for the 'blank canvas' starting point....got there in the end, but many a time i said 'if only i hadnt chucked blarb out etc....'  :)
  10. Lol @ DougB Ok....had the multi-meter out early this morning before work: Ignition on and NO brown/l'green connected on switch - 12.5v on red wire, 7.5v on yellow wire and 0.0v on blue. That 7.4v seems odd...???? Also, does the wiring look in the right places...?
  11. Not aware of intermittent on GT6's (??) From memory of flicking through the 'guide to originality' book, I think there were about 3 different types of 'switch' (the black square bit with decal) on later cars but only differing in the decal. Operation should be off/slow/fast - going anti-clockwise (well, thats the way mine goes anyhoo) Dont recognise your switch Benny - Could be from an MG  :P

It connects to the motor housing and a "spigot" and cam arrangement, with the motor gear wheel, enables the power to continue once the wiper switch has been turned off until the wiper blades reach the park position. The part number from Canleys is 517645 and it is shown on this diagram below. Unfortunately out of stock from Canleys but I got mine from Stafford Vehicle Components for £11.50 http://www.canleyclassics.com/?xhtml=xhtml/diagram/gt6mkiiiwindscreenwiper.html&xhtmlcatalogue=xhtml/catalogue/gt6mkiii.html&category=electricalequipment&xsl=diagram.xsl Well, if that is at fault, then i will return unit for replacement as it was a full unit c/w that already fixed/wired to unit....
  13. 9077 wrote:Have you checked/changed the parking switch on the motor? Errr.....I will say no/yes..?? I just got a replacement wiper-motor unit.....disconnected the 'drive-wire' from old unit and then connected new motor unit....connected multi-plug....connected switch... Where is this 'park switch' ...? Cheers S
  14. Thanks for that Harry... OK.....so my problem is probably not the switch (had 2 new switches with exactly same issue) but on motor side...? If it is motor, is there something i can test or look to see if a wire or whatever is shorting or not connected etc... Or just get replacement as it only a couple weeks ago...? Cheers S
  15. 242 wrote:Sounds like the cut off in the motor to me. Brand new motor unit.... What is the brown/l'green wire for...? ...does that operate a 'off/park' switch within the motor unit..?
  16. Evening....OK, just connected 2nd new wiper switch on my mk3 GT6 and still not working right... Problem - original would not work at all (not looked at it yet) New one wouldnt switch off...had to balance it between pos 0 and pos 1 Replacement does exactly same thing...?? Wiring as follows: Blue/l'green - terminal 1 Green - term 2 Red/l'green - term 3 Brown/l'green - term 4 It does switch off (but doesnt park whatever) if dont connect terminal 4 (brown/l'green) Speed 1 and speed 2 positions work ok as does washer pump action I'm a bit confused  :-/ ...any ideas folks Cheers Steve
  17. Interesting info Rarebits - However.....I have GT6 mk3 (KE23006) But agree with what you say about '...NO DECENT.....' The bloke who fitted my screens said the seals i had were rubbish - far too hard (unlike the old ones - he had hoped i had the original seal intact)....because they are all made from recycled rubbish these days... I have found a lot of parts, all from 'triumph suppliers' to be awful for quality - but once you start digging around you find that 'such a part' is the same from 'such a current motor' etc... Cheers
  18. Yeah, i've had a look Wimpus - Could only see screen seals with detail for trim (they have each seal in cross-section) Wondering if the plain black seals for VW 'bay bus' would fit - may require cutting to length and bonding....??
  19. Having had the front screen fitted couple of weeks ago, i decided i preferred the look without the bright trim. Question is, can i get a plain black seal that will fit without the lip for the trim...? I have found 'universal' windscreen seal which is plain and sold by the metre - I suspect most motors with this type of sealing will be similar in fitment and just differing in shape/size... Also, anyone else had issues with the 'fit' of the seal - mine was a bit too long as when fitted to glass initially there was a section hanging over and required the seal to be pushed around before it looked like it fitted. I think this ill-fitting baggy seal is causing the side inner edges of seal to be off the screen - you can actually see the end/edge of the glass at the sides - which i am positive is not right. Seal appears to fit and looks ok inside all round and also top and bottom outside. If cant get plain seal, then a proper fitting OE one will do and i can carefully remove the flap for the trim... Cheers Steve
  20. 3 pins - dipped, main and earth Just get 2 lengths of wire....cpnnect one to bat neg, the other end to the erath terminal and in turn connect the other wire to each terminal on unit from bat pos - you are only wanting to power the lamp filament to see if lights up HTH's
  21. Beep-Beep  :) Horn now working - did new wire....but guess the 'piggyback' option is there too if i ever need an extra fuse space Thanks guys
  22. Richard_B wrote: If you use Brown, that fits the electrical Standard for live, non-switched that Triumph used. ...and i happen to have some brown too :) Thanks guys  8)
  23. Thanks John - Think i've got it.....let me see if i follow you.... The 'new'  live wire (lets use red) to pin 30 - this would come direct from battery via fuse, yes..?? my purple/black (horn push) to pin 85 my twin purples (loom 12v) to pin 87 my purple/yellow (to horns) to pin 86 85/86/87 wires are all terminated out from loom where original relay would be (for the 3 pins on the original relay as you say) This i believe will make the horn available all times, yes..? Cheers S

  25. I seem to have mis-placed the original horn relay - stumbled across it on Tuesday eve and put it safe and now cannot find it lol (found some other 'lost' bits though  :) I do have several other relays of varying ampage, but all 4 pin Anyone know what wire would go on which pin....? I'm guessing the 12v (twin purple) will be pin 30 (???) purple/black pin ???? purple/yellow pin ???? would an earth be needed on the forth pin...??? Cheers S
