  1. Totally agree. Get it on the road, enjoy it and you will then find what needs to be done and what can be left until later.

    Manifold woes

Maybe you have the skill and equipment to 'tweak' one, I don't and would expect it to fit if sold as suitable for my car and not as a generic fits all.
  3. My regional TV station recently had a documentary about the history of the circuit, very interesting and tragic. It lost its status due to it becoming too dangerous as cars got faster and faster.
  4. Back then it might have felt as if it lasted 80 hours but it was only 24 😉 There was also an old circuit near Rouen that used public roads. Modern road improvements does still mean that a part of the old circuit is still a public road. https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Circuit_de_Rouen-les-Essarts
  5. I got my metric speedo back from the restaurer and decided to fit it to replace the imperial one, The imperial one works (other than the trip) fine but I wanted a metric one plus the trip works. Fitted without too much knuckle grazing Then thought I'd carry on and replace the brake master cylinder, that too went fine until I dropped one of the washers that fit between the pedal top and brake cylinder piston. No sweat, not a special washer and chancer are it is in the footwell. Yes there it was on the mat under the brake light switch that was hanging loose. 2 jobs done 1 new one on the list - Grrrrrr....
  6. For my 13/60 it says every year or 3000 miles whichever comes first, in my case it is the time scale as I do around 1500 miles per year. I use a classic mineral oil.
  7. As Wendy says for belt & braces, I just have 1 before the pump
  8. Don't forget there is a short piece of pipe coming out of the petrol tank, easily missed. Gates is excellent stuff
  9. Every time fuel hoses is raised as a subject the problem of fake/rubbish stuff on the internet comes up. Go to a reputable car spares place, they can't afford NOT to have the real stuff.
  10. I've got Accuspark on the 13/60, since 2015, and keep a spare in the boot, good tip about just changing the trigger head.
  11. So now we have 2 methods of dealing with computers that play up, the good old 'switch it off then on again' and now the upgrade alternative 'drop it on the floor' It's getting a bit complicated for me all this computer maintenance stuff 🙄
  12. if it was cold enough to make that sort of difference I'd be doing indoor jobs not venturing outside 🥶. Anyway this is Normandy, the land of perpetual sunshine, raining only between 23h00 and 07h00 every third day. 😉
  13. Decided to go and pump up the tyres on the 13/60 this morning as I haven't checked them for a while, the car hasn't been used either lately - just a drive to the local garage for some brake work, a drive home and a test run. So, equipped with pump and pressure gauge, first wheel (front) : reading 2.5 bar. Odd that, I run them at 1.8bar front 2.0 rear. Other 3 wheels at the same 2.5 bar pressure. Thinks N°1 :Maybe I had put the pressure up for winter, Can't remember doing it. Thinks N°2 : Pressure gauge faulty? I know, check it against the pressures on the modern. They read as they should. Not pressure gauge then. Thinks N°3: Maybe the mechanic checked them and thought they were a bit on the low side so pumped them up to 'normal' pressures. . . Anyway instead of pumping them up I let them down. Life has its ups and downs. 🙄
  14. If it was foam rubber on the back of the one I'm going to fit is is well past its best. I could also wait and see what is fitted behind the bezel on the unit coming off.
  15. Fitted it to my drill, needle, total & trip moved. The registered speed wasn't very stable or consistant - for the moment I'll put that down to variable speed on the drill and / or workings of the speedo damp from being in store for years etc. Unit, less glass now on top of boiler to gently dry out. Glass came out in 1 piece(phew!) with a little bit of care. Cleaned up nicely. Metal rim given a coat of paint to freshen it up. I'll put a new O ring in the chrome part, either a new one if I can get something locally 100mm diameter seems to be the size or cut up one I have that seems to be about right in cross section but far too big.
  16. Then they would have put another set in to put it back in line. . .😉
  17. Obvious really, why would it be any different. Not even Triumph would be that devious 😈
  18. Glang & Rob : thanks for the clarification. I know it might have been a straightforward question but when I wanted to adjust the mixture on the carb the handbook didn't say whether clockwise/anticlockwise was viewed from the top or the bottom of the carb. Result was I made the mixture extra rich rather than weakening it . . .
  19. I've just received a new, for me, piece of equipment that once fitted will result in me cruising not at an indicated '50' but '80'. Wow what a boost! Yes, a speedometer in Kms not Miles to replace mine. It will make travelling a little easier with signs in Kms and the car recording the distance in miles. The big plus is the trip works, mine has never since I got it and I am too much of a coward to take it apart. I need to take the glass of to give it a clean on the inside and probably dust the face. I have thought, briefly of trying to reset the total distance to the metric equivalent of the reading on my imperial one, but as said too much of a coward. Now, serious question : I want to confirm it works so does the cable turn clockwise or anti clockwise when viewed from the front or back?
  20. When I got my 13/60 there was a retractable aerial fitted in the same place. I changed it as it didn't fully retract any more with a new one that does. Even simpler just fit a standard retractable one.
  21. Is there a slower version? You know, stroll or plod - I don't dash anymore. Sorry I'll let you get back to the serious stuff 🤐
  22. I'd hate to encounter someone who was both a rivet AND bean counter
  23. You're not alone. My wife is forever pointing out errors with costumes (she was a theatre/tv/film costumière) and will complain that in a period piece someone is wearing a dress 5 years later than the date set etc. This very morning she started to read a new book received yesterday and pointed out that the illustration on the cover is dodgy. The book is set just after WW2 but the young lady is wearing a dress from 1932, I did say that maybe she hadn't got anything newer 😉. Didn't work as she replied the dress is a haute couture job.
  24. Same name as we gave my 13/60. Bought as a ruby wedding present to me from me, plus it happens to be dark red.
