  1. Just ordered the parts needed for the rear brakes - cylinders, adjusters definitely needed to be replaced (at least on one side), mounting kit for the cylinders just in case & flexibles as there is a suspicion one was causing a blockage. When they arrive I'll take them up the road to the mechanic who has the car in his garage. You don't think I was going to get my hands dirty did you? 😁
  2. The club could do some beer mats
  3. The one I've got is showing signs of wear after all the years of (mis)use and neglect. I'm keeping an eye out for a good second hand one on e bay . . .
  4. Don't know about the car, which does look nice but so do many others at a fraction of the price, but I had to goooogle Simon Cowell as I have never heard of him😵
  5. If I could manage that long I would be very happy.
  6. What have I done recently to the Triumph? Well Wednesday morning took it out for its first outing of the year, it took a little longer to start than usual - it was a cold and frosty morning. Drove it the 3 Kms to my local garage and left it for him to look at the rear brakes. One sticks from time to time. I await his diagnostic. OK, so I wimped out, my reason being I have health problems which make working under the car difficult plus the car gets to sit in a nice garage for a while. Mind you I have done the difficult work of checking out stocks of the likely parts to be replaced from suppliers in France and will order any needed. The parking area at home does look a bit empty without it 😵
  7. Absolutely! Makes a big difference and shows you have made an effort.
  8. Add to that Police Municipale, employed and controlled by the city/town council. Gendarmes as you say are military, Police Nationale are civil (and as such are allowed to belong to a union unlike military personnel). Both come under the responsibility of the Ministry of the Interior. Their roles are the same, and again as you say, the Gendarmerie is found in rural areas such as where I live and the Police Nationale in urban areas. Both armed as standard. The gendarmes are the descendants of the maréchaussées, created during the 100 years war to police the conduct of the army - hence why they are military - their role was extended to civil duties in 1536. France does like to make things complicated whenever it can 🙄
  9. The gendarmes won't like that, although it is a great roundabout. Just pluck up your courage, don't look in the rear view mirrors, if there is a gap go for it before someone else does. The last time I went round my wife just stared at her feet, I was well pleased with myself as I intimidated a bus and won - dont' think he liked being beaten by a 'provençal'. If by any chance you are going at the beginning of February the big classic car show Retromobile is on. Bonne route Gendarme = Gen d'arme ( armed person basically)
  10. For the moment the best I can find is this. It could well be that it uses original workshop pages as from reading some comments the quality of the images and print isn't brilliant. https://www.amazon.fr/dp/2726899269/ref=nosim?tag=tmbbooks-21
  11. I've just done an Goooooooooogle search and found this site, I haven't gone any deeper with it - I'm going to get a cup of tea then look in more detail. Fingers crossed you find something. Bonne chance & bonne route https://www.tmbbooks.com/fr/a_autom_Triumph.html
  12. Were you looking at Amazon FRANCE? As you are looking for something in French you are better looking at sites such as these. https://www.leboncoin.fr/equipement_auto/2140947035.htm https://www.ebay.fr/itm/144879198423?hash=item21bb7920d7:g:TJkAAOSwOlBjrxzl&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAAoId3Mz4KOMFSdVDXWzUSYo1sMLJKuem%2FfKQY6QN8E5MuUAeuNmHB2cl2X4pLym70v%2BIz1%2F8uCt6kPrQ59arhjpy0EErrAXAFGYQxJtAcfeVhnLuJ28aa3G7iyeWy%2B7soStey0oeXiFjimblOM8eoNby0GC5i5Mvn72gnUAn%2Bvn%2FUkzYw6YBHNzN2nAVmcelzbRarWL6KU%2FbC0cbiIGTrPrY%3D|tkp%3ABk9SR6Si1e6yYQ These are currently on offer, they might be what you are interested in. I check these sites plus another each morning for a particular piece I want that is clearly as rare as the proverbial hens teeth.
  13. 'Should'. Make sure you have good official looking paperwork to show you have just bought it as customs might want you to prove it is yours.
  14. I imported to France a car from the UK in 2015, pre Brexit of course, and it was straight forward. Now that the UK has left the EU paperwork and taxes, let alone transport will be far more complex. I would look at getting a French transport company collecting it and taking it to a depot near a port and you picking it up from there. Good luck.
  15. I bet it has some stuff that will be very dated and hilarious by modern standards. The car components part will still be valid.
  16. NO! don't do that you would very unpopular. Here we differentiate between the 2 types that have a 'residence secondaire' in the area - Parisian and parasite. But yes, a glossary could be useful.
  17. The art of translating is to not make it a direct translation but is what would be said/written in the other language . . . 🙄
  18. Spark plug = Bougie (candle think about the origins of car ignition) Track rod end = Rotule de direction (rotule is also the name for the similar type of joint in the human skeleton) Something that might help as well: 'Oh dear it is broken' = Putain merde c'est foutu! Bonne chance & bonne route
  19. I might qualify then, as all I've done since early December is talk to the local garage man about having the rear brakes checked out this month, looked at my usual French suppliers for likely parts that might need replacing. Tomorrow I 'plan' to go round and agree a date to take the car in, but tomorrow is another day . . .
  20. Ah, maybe they needed to renew visas for their return here. I'm not sure what the requirements are for Brits now post Brexit - Actually doesn't concern me as I have double nationality, I'm yer genu wine 'Franglais'
  21. Clive, I don't get that bit - why do they need visas to come and collect a car, or are they planning to stay for a length of time beyond just a visit. I thought that since the UK wouldn't accept the identity card for a European a passport was all that is needed to visit. Maybe they need to get a passport as like me they don't have one, that can take a while in some areas.
  22. That sums up the difference between dogs and cats. Dogs THINK they are the gods, cats KNOW they are. As the saying goes: Dogs have masters, cats have domestics. As you're probably guessed we share the house with (3) cats.
