  1. Does the standard 16 list include a curve that's good for a standard GT6 running 95 octane fuel? I'd rather stick with a fixed one if i'm honest rather than go all project on it just at the moment (got enough i wanna do to it for now and want it back on the road asap)
  2. Cheers Paul, thing is, i like the idea of having the old original distributor as a spare in case i (or a subsequent owner) ever want to put it back to standard, want the car to be as usable as possible but also most of the mods reversible if required. so question is, is there a way of getting a mechanical drive tach one off the shelf? (so to speak) I assumed the one i posted the link to would work as there seems to be an electric (part no. 485464)  and mechanical tach (no, 488673) versions available.
  3. Yeah i think one of them had mentioned it was a MGB specific one. Having a look there seems to be one for mechanical tach cars! it's out of stock here at the moment (hence the very reasonable price) but i think i'll go for that one. http://www.limora.com/en/zundanlage-131759.html
  4. Anyone got any personal experience of this? How easy is it to fit to a GT6. My understanding that it's not quite a straight swap as you need to switch to an electric rev counter? What other parts are needed? Have heard good things about it from a few mates (MGB owners, sorry!) Seems to be the most recommended electronic ignition short of megajolt (not sure I wanna go that far just yet)
  5. Looks like some real time, effort and precision engineering went into this. http://laughingsquid.com/model-enthusiast-makes-his-own-functioning-14-scale-v8-engine-with-electronic-fuel-injection/
  6. Hopefully gunna be doing this on the weekend (weather permitting!), in the long term i have the trunnionless kit which i've got ready to go on but in the mean time. Would it be possible to see the guide as i'm sure any extra info would be helpful. I have one of the halfords can's mentioned by the OP so gunna use that filled with EP90. Cheers John
  7. Cheers, will get some Hammerite or something from Halfords
  8. Cheers for the advice guys. GT6s- What did you paint the links with? Do you have a link to the stuff? Where would people recommend for bearings etc? cheers
  9. Cool. Good news about not needing the puller. Think I'll replace bearings and either poly bush or superflex at the same time I want to put konis on at some point so am thinking maybe wait and do it all it once while its all apart. Was tempted by just replacing the links but I like the fit and forget aspect (well I know they need a bit of WD40 but its closer to fit and forget) as I want to use it a lot so want as many aspects I can forget about or as close to.
  10. Hi all. Getting ahead of the game a bit here but thought it worthwhile asking. Seen a couple of people have fitted the trunionless kit to GT6's and seeing as i'll be picking the GT6 up soon it's one of the first things I'd like to do for my own piece of mind (after seeing some of the "incidents" from poorly maintained vertical links/trunnions). Does anyone have any advice on fitting these? Is it worth renewing the shocks/springs/suspension bushes/bearings while doing this? Was initially tempted by the uprated hub and stud kit at the same time but it's pretty expensive when you add it to the trunuionless kit as well!! I also assume i'll need the hub puller tool (another £65!). Saw someone had painted the vertical links, is this worth doing to help them last longer? Apologies for all the questions but i am still a novice and after i give the car a decent service this'll be my first job on the car i think. Cheers John
  11. Cool. Cheers guys. I won't rule it out due to this then. Yeah aware the bodywork is the main thing to look out for, just didn't fancy the added price of overdrive if I found it unbearable on the motorway/dual carriageway(s). Out of interest any idea what sort of RPM it would be roughly at 70mph for a MK2 with this ratio? I know there are a few other factors but just roughly.
  12. Hello all. Just been browsing for cars, was ideally looking for one with overdrive due to the mileage I want to do with it. One has come up for sale which is non-overdrive with a 3.27 diff. My question is, how useable will this be at motorway speeds. Does anyone have this setup and have experience of motorway miles? Not sure on it as it needs a bit of work and it isn't the best time for me, but it is the right colour and MK (MK2) so thought it worth asking. Cheers in advance. John
