mowerman
Does anyone know if the crankshaft bolt is a left or right handed thread. Mr Haynes doesn`t know!! "remove bolt from crankshaft pulley" Yeah right!!! It`s been soaking in release oil for two days and it still wont move. >:( Thanks.
Deleted User
It's a normal RH thread, and it's furking tight. The best way is lock the engine solid with a block of wood between the engine block, and the first big end journal - and use a long pole on the wrecker bar.If you can't do it this way, then borrow an air powered impact gun and do it with that. bxbodger
There is a further technique, which you can use if the engine is still in the car or at least the the starter motor is still fitted or can be temporarily refitted. It can be a bit dramatic and is not for the faint hearted but it never fails!!The engine rotates clockwise as viewed from the front- you want the pulley bolt to loosen in an anticlockwise direction. All you need to do is put a socket over the bolt, with an extension bar (I use a supermarket trolley handle....) wedged against the chassis.Disconnect the coil as you don't want the engine starting, flick the starter momentarily and the engine will turn- the bolt, however, will stay still and therefore will now be loose..in effect, rather than turn the bolt anticlockwise, you've turned the crankshaft clockwise behind it.A quick flick of the starter is all that's needed to shock the bolt loose- I've used this method for 20 odd years on various cars and it has always worked, but BE CAREFUL as you DON'T want a flying tommy bar to dodge!!
