Hi you may have sorted your enginre by now but if not then my 2pence may be worth a look ,not sure why you wish to do such a thing unless your in a early race series for Mk1 only?
if so tem why not  just fit 2.5 crank in to Mk 1 block yes they can fit I have one ,(for sale if reqd),  i am sure you know the Mk1 heasds dont breath as good as Mk2s but if you have weber inlets and carbs plus tube ex then you can force it to work, old triple SUs can be quite good , Mike Papworth,

i'm with the last chap - why would you want to do this?  while the later heads were notoriously hard to get torque out of, by the time you get to a 2500 you've got a fair measure of torque anyway so you might as well take advantage of the better breathing?  don't you reckon?  unless you're manufacturing a manifold you also can't use those better, longer later manis with the mark I head either.  anyway, will be interested to see if you continue down that path.  cheers, phil.
