From memory, they are the same. Same cam, head, compression etc. Just different number.

In fact even into the 90's you would often be supplied with an engine from a different car if you bought a recon one. I have a goldseal midget engine that was supplied as an exchange for a spit 1500. No problem really unless you worry about matching numbers!

It is a prefix, not a suffix, as it is at the beginning rather that the end.
