swoakes
I have just discovered that my Spit Mark 4 is fitted with a 1296 engine from a dolomite prefix DH. What are the differences between the two engines? How do they compare on power output? Thanks Steve
2Toledos
This'll be no help whatsoever, and I don't know the answer to the question; but:If the original engine was knackered, and the one you have is running..... I reckon you've got the right engine ?!
Clive
From memory, they are the same. Same cam, head, compression etc. Just different number. In fact even into the 90's you would often be supplied with an engine from a different car if you bought a recon one. I have a goldseal midget engine that was supplied as an exchange for a spit 1500. No problem really unless you worry about matching numbers! Darren Sharp
All of the above are correct, the DH suffix denotes a dolomite or Toledo the difference would be in the Carburation. A 1300 in a dolly or tolly would be fitted with a single SU as opposed to twin SU's in your Spitty. Darren

DarrenIt is a prefix, not a suffix, as it is at the beginning rather that the end.apologies for donning my anorak.
