AJ.Lintern
If there is any play in the rear wheel bearing does it means it needs replacing? Or is a certain amount ok? I've got the driveshafts off my car at the moment and can feel a little movement with it clamped in the vice and pulling on the brake back plate. They seem to rotate smoothly though. Eddy
With the wheel jacked, do do hear grounching (is that how u spell it?) noise when you rotate wheel?Thats the sure sign that the bearing is knackered. (Usually broken bearing cage - when u remove bearing, balls just fall out, or worn races/balls)Warning: Replacing rear wheel bearing can be a pig of a job. AJ.Lintern
No graunching noises, turns smoothly, just a bit of movement when I wiggle the driveshaft while the hub is in the vice.
Paul318UK
Any play can be a desaster. the inner bearing has no inner race and runs on the driveshaft. Unless you change it now you may end up scrapping the shaft,Paul
