marky_uk
Any tips for restoring the door cappings on my Dolomite Sprint? I'm looking for an easy way but suspect that much elbow grease is required. Any help much appreciated
Silvery
Seems the general consensus (been talked about elsewhere) is do it yourself - Rub the old ones down, not too much though (don't go through the veneer!), and varnish/ laquer to your liking. One of my TCs had the door caps done with a dark varnish by the previous owner, and they look really good, although are rubbing off and fading a bit over time. I've got to try and re-do them, as well as the ones on another TC, and on a 1300fwd.. Because they're all different, so can't just pick up a set of good Dolly ones for any of my cars.. :(
marky_uk
Thanks, I will give it a go it's just so damn thick the laquer but I'm sure I can get a good result!
Jason
The stuff to use is Rustins Plastic Coating http://www.rustins.co.uk/PCoat.html#begin I've seen pieces of wood done with this and it's teh closest thing to the factory finish I've ever seen. Talking to the guy who used it he says it covers a multitude of sins and was quite straight forward to use. I will be giving it a go when the time comes - Rustins will sell it mail order or tell you where your nearest stockist is, if you ping them an email.
