beefertoo Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 this has now got me confused(doesn't take much ;)) i thought that all the recessed blocks had domed pistons(6 pots) where non recessed was flat pistons, from reading bits from other posts. my gt6 (ke15...)engine has recessed block with flat pistons but i've just got the head off a spare saloon (ml213..)engine and this has the recessed block with domed pistons. question is witch one is right or are they both?? thanks craig
Clive Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 I think you are right. BUT no reasom why flat-tops can't be put in with the matching head, or indeed the engine hasn't been stroked to 2.5 Many of these engines have been reconitioned and played with over the last 40 years, so not much surprises me :-/
beefertoo Posted May 13, 2009 Author Posted May 13, 2009 thanks clive, its got me thinking now as although the spit runs ok it's still a bit low on compression and wondered if its got the wrong ones in.craig
Clive Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 Compare head thicknesses. That is about the simplist way to check what head it is. But then you need the data....http://www.triumphclub.co.nz/technical.htmlscroll down a bit!
GT6 M Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 Yep you are right, the engines were made with domed pistons and a recessed block, i got one too, and it was no ..fiddled with..Also had ..holes .. in me conrods, tooMarcus
