casey12
Hi, this might sound a stupid question, but at any time did Herald brake lights work any other way apart from the switch on the brake pedal. Our new one doesn't have a switch or signs of ever having one, no wires etc, Have traced wires and they are dead in the loom, on the bulkhead.? herald948
What vintage is your Herald? Older ones had a hydraulic switch in a multi-pipe union under the bonnet. Follow the pipe from the master cylinder to the union on the chassis, and you might just find the switch or remnants of same. From Canley Classics, look at the diagram athttp://www.canleyclassics.com/catalogue.asp?id=vitessemk2_brakepipes&scale=large

casey12
Hi ,Thanks again , found the switch in the union, the Herald had no brake fluid in so the switch wasn't working!
heraldcoupe
When testing the brake lights, make sure they operate under light, as well as heavy pedal pressure. The switch can fail so that it operates only on high pressure. The car will pass the MOT like this, but in real use your brake lights won't operate except under emergency braking. Cheers,Bill.
