Lord Sorbington
Stupid manual 'boxes - why don't they have dipsticks? What's the easiest way to access the filler plug / check the gearbox oil level on an o/d 2000?

Greeks
just sitck an arm under and undo ... you'll get the hang of it. Just make sure the car's stationary :-)change the plug for one with a hex head and you can use a ratchet with an extension makes life a bit easier....or pick it up and shake it and listen for sloshy noises ;-)

valencia1
when i had mine i cut a 3" dia. hole in the tunnel for easier acccess, then used a 4" blanking cover to conceal the hole. just a case of finding the plug centre by drilling tiny holes in aproxamate area. the carpet then covered it all up. Lord Sorbington
I like the idea of a hole....
Deleted User
Just reach under and squeeze oil in til it drips out.
Russell
As others have said, you can get to the filler hole without jacking the car up, you just need your neck and shoulder to get intimate with the sill. For filling, I just use a normal finger pumped oil can, with a 1m rubber hose extension. Saves trying to get the 1 litre EP90 bottle up beside the gearbox.Russell.
Lord Sorbington
You were all correct - dead easy to reach without jacking the car, once you know where the plug is!'Box didn't need topped up, but the diff took half a litre.....I unblocked the breather to see if that stops it leaking. It worked on the saloon so fingers crossed.
valencia1
just need to be careful if you don't hit the hole first time your likely to pick up dirt/crud of the side of the box.
