Hi to everyone on the forum and merry Christmas from new member.  Apologies if this has been answered before but can anybody help with recommendations for down draught carburettors to fit my Spitfire based special particularly with suggestions for the inlet manifold.

Many thanks

Which Spit engine?
Why downdraft?
Is it a space problem?
Are you aiming at performance or reliability?
Solex are simple and reliable.
Injection could be concidered for performance.

What kit is it for? somebody on here may have come across the same fitting problems?Indeed the engine is the big question.
The 1200 engines from a MK1/2 could use the downdaught solex from the herald if you had to, not great for performance though.
For later spitfires (1300/1500) nothing has been available. Certainly in the UK, but I have a suspicion that the Americans may have used a weber downdraught to get over all the emissions nonsense over there, which would be ideal? some have found their way over here, but are not popular as they have no advantage over the std setup.
Aha! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/32-36-WEBER-TRIUMPH-SPITFIRE-CONVERSION-MANUAL-CHOKE_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ72Q3a1205Q7c66Q3a2Q7c65Q3a12Q7c39Q3a1Q7c240Q3a1318Q7c301Q3a1Q7c293Q3a1Q7c294Q3a50QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem360117631965QQitemZ360117631965QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories
Is what they sell. You may be able to just get the manifold if desperate and use a carb off a ford or something, beyond my knowledge.
Cheers
