Howard81 Posted November 18, 2009 Share Posted November 18, 2009 On a Spitfire 1500 engine (well, actually it's a Midget block but I think it should be the same), which is the correct notch to set the ignition timing?Unfortunately my timing plate is really hard to read, but can anyone confirm if the mark in the picture is the correct one? starman Posted November 18, 2009 Share Posted November 18, 2009 The long tooth is zero degrees and TDC (it's also in-line with the little hole), and the scribed mark in the photo is at 10 degrees advance (BTDC). It's 4 degrees peak-to-peak or valley-to-valley, and 2 degrees between adjoining peaks and valleys on the timing cover marker shown in the photo.10 degrees BTDC is a good static idle timing setting.
