junkuser
After owning this '62 Spit for 30 years with a rolled under nose and radiator grill displaced back about an inch and a half I am attempting to restore it to the correct shape. So far I have pulled the nose + grill forward to approx where they should be and the contour of the nose in the horizontal plane looks about right.(same as panel behind bumper)There are no Spitfires in this area (Rathmines NSW Australia) so I don't know what the contour should be it the vertical plane. No photos I can find show the shape clearly. If someone has a Spit with the original bonnet shape and could post a photo taken horizontally across the nose it would be appreciated.Any suggestions on a better approach would also be appreciated
herald948
Try this original sales brochure:http://www.triumph-brochure-page.de/gfx/brochure_opt/spitfire/spit_24.jpgfrom http://www.triumph-brochure-page.de/spitfire.htmwhere there are other pretty good shots as well. And I sympathize, as I know how difficult it is to find an undamaged early Spitfire bonnet, even in the US where most Spitfires were sold! junkuser
Thanks Andy, your help is appreciated. Gives me another view.Interesting that they didn't bother to straighten up the overiders even in their sales brochures. All the Best, Malcolm. herald948
Hey, wadda ya want? That particular car had already led a pretty tough life by the time it was photographed for various brochures. I'm almost 100% positive that the car pictured is, in fact, 412 VC, the very first pre-production prototype!
