clutch confusion

never tested the clutch before but now have a strange thing happening. when the engine is running i can change gear without using the clutch. when i check the gearbox /clutch from underneath, with the clutch peddle pressed the clutch plate is free and turns when it is not pressed it is solid and won't budge

Do you have the rear drive gear in place? the engine wont stall unless the rear wheels are exerting stress on the drivetrain.

no the there is no stress on the drivetrain, the props not connected. just seemed strange that i can go through the gears with the engine running not using the clutch and no graunch at all

There is nothing wrong with that at all. Try it when the car is on the road, and it will graunch.................just like you wanted.
