Wires
Can anyone tell me how to adjust the play in a Triumph steering rack please.I believe that it is from a Triumph 2000 and it is now fitted in a Dax Cobra (sorry, folks !). There is a 9/16ths bolt in the middle of a large (1 1/2 inch or so) nut. I have tried turning the bolt both ways and it seems to make little difference to the stiffness of the rack, even at extremes of lock.Any help much appreciated.Regards,Wires
Keith
Mr Wires, You can adjust the play in the rack and pinion by adjusting the shimming under the large nut which holds the damper in place. You can also take up play in the inner ball joints by adjusting shims. The bush at the passenger end of the rack should also be replaced to take up wear. Allways bear in mind that the rack will wear more in the centre than at the end of travel, so when changing shims make sure that it doesn't bind at the extremes.Keith
