Fordski
Hi AllHaving had the expansion pipe soldered back after it parted company with the header neck it has gone again. The cause, which is now evident on closer inspection, is that the expansion bottle is loose in the fixing bracket. Even when tightened fully it still moves about - reason because someone back in the day used a Xerox toner bottle which is clearly to narrow for the bracket! This presumably explains why a cable tie was used to secure the pipe to one of the rad hoses. Obviously the correct replacement header bottle needs to be purchased and secured properly. Preamble over my dilemma is then should I get the pipe resolder back onto the radiator or having tried once is it always going to be a weak point. Despite the cost of a new rad I wouldn't want it to fail again whilst out and about leaving me stranded somewhere.Any thoughts welcome.RegardsAndy
nang
A decent soldered joint should not come apart. I needs to be sufficiently hot enough to 'sweat' the solder into the joint.Tony.
