  1. TR tunnel and dash all back together as the bad gearbox leak seems fixed. Eurotunnel booked for Wednesday to Wednesday as we're tagging on a couple of days extra for an Amsterdam visit. Campanile Calais booked for Wednesday night, Holiday Inn Singen for the Saturday. Swiss Vignette sitting on my desk. Think that's all the logistics sorted, now ... onto the Spares List!
  2. Ok, real seal arrived, ripped all the transmission tunnel out this evenin', cleaned off all the oil and went for a hot breezy drive ..... turns out it's not the rear seal after all, but the speedo drive. Fabricated a washer from some nitrile rubber and it seems to have fixed it. Will test again tomorrow, but driving without the tunnel in is mildly scary.  Hands near the handbrake far too near the propshaft.   ??)

  4. Either Carmel or I have been using the TR6 daily in the last 2-3 weeks to try and iron out any potential niggles. It only managed 300miles between MoTs last year (May 2012 - May 2013)  :( . We've done more than that in the last 2 weeks now. Unfortunately the slight weep from the gearbox is getting worse and I don't fancy topping the car up at the end of every day on the 10CR or risk running the car too low. Looks like it's the rear oil seal, so part is ordered and I will attempt to replace it at the weekend. Also changed the fan-belt this week as the old one was looking at bit hard and chirping on start-up. I'd forgotton what a pain that job is on the TR, having to loop it over the massive fan, then squeeze it between the front pulley, steering rack and that front cross-brace.
  5. Campanile Calais booked for Wednesday night, just need to book the tunnel crossing now. No ferry for us, due to Carmel's disagreement with boats and anything choppier than a mill-pond. I don't want a repeat of the 3 hours circling outside Dover again.
  6. In that case your money would probably be better spent converting the carb to a manual choke. http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-RB7184 When I got mine I found another site that was doing them for £28 and Rimmers price matched. I now get about 27mpg on a run. (Rover v8 )
  7. Hi Chris, work depending I'd like to do this. Russell Banyard   -  Stag (Rover V8 )

I've got one in my Mk 2 mated to a lucas DLB105 coil. No issues with it so far and that includes the 800miles in 24 hours done for last weekends HCR. Just ensure you have a clean 12v powering both the electronic ignition and the coil (no ballasted feeds). All my other cars have Petronix Ignitors and they've proved reliable too with the same coil set-up.
  9. Newton Commercial is who you need. http://www.newtoncomm.co.uk/cars/triumph-gt6/model-154/seats/ I have a pair of MK2 seats that need completely rebuilding, but having totted up the cost, I've decided they'll stay in the shed a little while longer.  :)

  11. If you're lucky, someone may have cut slots into the shear bolts that hold the lock on , so you can undo them like a screw. If you haven't already, take off the 2 part black surround around the steering column switches and you'll see the alloy lock housing. There will be 2 bolts holding this on. If they are headless with no slots, then you may have to drill them out. Edit : The other option is to pop the bonnet and remove the lower steering column to the rack, you can then turn the wheels by hand. Russell.

No one more surprised than me at the final price. I didn't realise you could still buy them new until halfway through the auction, from your pics I can see the difference in them though. The money's already spent, it's gone on a pair of Earlparts front wing lower corner repair panels for the 2000.
  13. My experience with sealed beams on the RBRR is that they burn out, especially if they're getting elderly. The weather is likely to be bad and they may be on for most of the 48hours. 2004 I got through both my dip lights on the 2000 and ended up running on the main beams with tape over them to try and reduce the dazzle to other drivers. I did have spares but had lent one to another team earlier, and the other was faulty. :-( The advantage of bulb conversion is the spares don't take up so much precious space. As others have said, relays are a good idea, but none of my cars have them, and I haven't had issues with the wiring. For other prep, just think what you normally have to do to your car in 2000 miles, and don't forget to do it on the run. For example a leaky diff or gearbox you have to top up regularly can soon run dangerously low. Russell.

FloydP wrote: The only snag with them is that they are slightly higher and if you have a long body your head will be close to the roof, I've managed to find a comfy position if I recline them a bit more than I would normally, I don't know if you can see that in the picture. bit of a hike for you to try them, but next time I see you (start of the HCR) have a go and see what you reckon. Floyd Hi Floyd, that is my concern, I don't really want to sit any higher than the standard seats. When I refurbished the seats in the TR6, I ended up taking half the foam out again as I found my head was too close to the top of the screen. It will be a while before I change them, so it would like to give yours a quick sit at the HCR. They do look good though! Russell.
  15. Have booked in with the Stag. LT77 gearbox is in with custom prop, just need to cable up  the speedo and have it calibrated. Sort the brakes, new master cylinder, calipers and hoses. Replace collapsing engine mount. Fix leaky diff. Hopefully all this will be done before the HCR so I can get some miles on it. Other nice-to-have would be alternative seats with headrests, not worried about originality but don't want anything too bulbous and sofa-like. Anyone fitted MX5 seats to a Stag? Russell. (oh ... and start piggy bank saving for fuel!)
  16. Well this was my first Autosolo, and didn't really know what to expect, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Many thanks to Colin for the offer of a shared drive in his car as I hadn't even thought of entering until a few days after the 10CR. Jason wrote: I was surprised that we didn't have more people listening to the marshals as they called out the faults, that would have given you a big clue as to where the tricky areas were Despite being told at the start of our run on Test 2 'people keep wrong testing at 2 and 1', I still managed to wrong test twice out the 3 runs. Knowing that, made me panic more at that point, and I think I took a different route every time. I liked the 'drifting roundabout' and the fact we had 6 runs at the final layout, as others have said, it gave us a good run at getting the times down. A spare set of tyres seems essential for that surface, as it has a remarkable cheese grating effect. Next years will be a great excuse to concentrate on getting my Spitfire back on the road - and to improve on looking quicker than this! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uDf1cUk_QwY (thanks Mike/Phil) Russell.
