  1. Premier Inn now booked £59 flexible rate booking cancellable up to 1pm on the day.
  2. TBH, the Novatel is best avoided, I'll never ever use it again having been double booked last time and had an elderly couple walk in to my room when I was stark b0llock naked. The Premier Inn is far more reliable and is only a mile away from the Novatel and also has plenty of parking. Also far more teams stay at the Premier Inn than the Novatel nowadays so the after run pi55 up is much better.
  3. My Nappy Cack Yellow GT6. Last used on the 2010 RBRR. The GT6 completed the run in 2006 and 2008 but we had an incident on the 2010 run spinning off the A9 between Perth and Inverness avoiding a large stag (with antlers). We did limp it to John O'Groats with damaged rear suspension with a bent tie rod which snapped when we tried to fix it there and we ended up being recovered by the AA all the way back to Hampshire! Since then the car has been rested from RBRR duties with most of my runs since then completed in the "Flying Log" Dolomite now owned by Darren Sharp. The GT6 has been a media star since it's last RBRR appearance, featuring in Practical Classics and also on the TV as the example car in Car SOS. It's been used continuously since then including a trip to the international GT6 weekend in Germany. Lots of changes in my personal life since then too, a divorce, both kids growing up and finishing education, and retirement for me 2 years ago. Looking forward to the RBRR, however, it will be the first run for a while with only 1 co-driver so it will be hard work! My Co-driver is Glynn Davis who has been one of my co-drivers every run since 2014 but never in my GT6.
  4. Yep, I'll be in the same position there Tim. My sponsorship is likely to be down a lot this time since I have retired since the last run, firstly it means I don't have the chance to ask for sponsorship from colleagues at work. Secondly, my old company (Vodafone) did a sponsorship match scheme giving a £ for £ match up to £350 so now I don't work for them I'm £350 down before I start 😞 Still on the brightside being a grumpy pensioner gives me more time to prep the car without work getting in the way 🙂

Yep once I get entry confirmed I'll look to book the Stevenage Premier Inn for the Sunday night, I've used that for the last few RBRRs as I will never ever use the Novatel in Stevenage anymore after an embarrassing nudity issue there at a club Dinner a few years back where the Hotel double let my room and an elderly couple walked in on me while I was in my birthday suit!
  6. Hi, Does anyone know who owns this car? I took a picture of it at the Phoenix Green New Years Day Meet which I posted with my other event pics on facebook. I've since been contacted by the daughter of a previous owner who is trying to track down the current owner. She has pictures and information of the car from back in the day when her Dad owned it and would like to get in touch with the current owner. One of the pictures shows it with a Club Triumph Sun Strip and RBRR stickers on the doors as well so looks like it was a club car back in the day and there is another similar stickered up big saloon behind it.   7. Decision taken, I'll just do the RBRR and the Nappy Cack Yellow GT6 will be making a comeback this time.

That's not the case, the chassis are different in terms of length and also the Herald chassis has outer rails and the rear radius arms mount on the chassis rear outriggers where as the Spitfire has no outer rails and no rear outriggers and the radius arms mount on the body tub. The wheel base is considerably longer on a Herald so a Spitfire prop will be far to short. Spitfire wheelbase 83 inches, Herald Wheel base 91 inches so it's about an 8 inch difference in terms of prop length!
  9. Has a decision been taken on the date for the RBRR in 2023 yet? I'm hoping to do the German GT6 weekend which is around the same time so it would be useful to know. The German GT6 weekend date hasn't been confirmed yet but is going to be either 22nd to 24th September, or 29th September to 1st October or 7th to 9th October and I'm suspecting one of the last two dates will be the RBRR.

  11. I filled my Dolomite with VMax Diesel once, it's easy to confuse with the V-Max Petrol on the pump. I only live 1/2 mile away from the petrol station and the car started to misfire just before driving onto my driveway and then it conked out when I stopped. When I got out of the car I could smell diesel, then I looked at my receipt and sure enough I'd bought V Max diesel rather than petrol. I drained it all out and replaced with petrol but even so I had to change the plugs 3 times over the next couple of weeks before it would run well.
  12. Yes got it through but couldn't see anything about payment mentioned. However, I have seen that the TR drivers club are saying pay on arrival for their guys so that seems the easiest approach and having read it again I can see that's what we are doing too so all is good...

  15. When do we get our tickets that we registered for to get free entry on the Sunday? The event is now only a week away and no sign of them yet, for those of us travelling to get there on the Friday we need them delivered (I believe it's via email) in advance to ensure we can print off before leaving home, any later than Thursday is too late for me. Also no further info received regarding paying for the camping from Friday, I did send in the email saying I wanted to camp, do we just pay 30 quid in cash when we turn up, I note that is the arrangement that the TRDC are using.

  17. 7/16 square, you can get 8 point sockets to fit which are really good if it's really tight, or if it's not too stubborn just use a 7/16 or 11mm open ended spanner.   19. Yep same here Tim, Tested on the Saturday to be responsible before leaving and was negative. I started feeling rough on Wednesday so tested and was still negative, however by Saturday I was feeling even worse so tested again and was positive too. I know Ferny also went down with it and also my RBRR Co-Driver Glyn and his wife Ann-Marie. I guess with the infection rate being 1 in 20 of the population at the moment it was to be expected that there would be some covid spread amongst a room of 120 people. It may even have been hotel staff, after all they probably can't afford to isolate if they catch covid being on crap wages and probably no sick pay for isolating. I was particularly peed off to go down with it on Saturday as it was my birthday on the Sunday and we had meals out with family visitors booked on Saturday night and Sunday lunchtime that had to be cancelled. My last 3 birthdays have now been ruined by Covid as we were in lockdown for the previous 2.

  22. So my views on a couple of the points raised 1. Drivers Meet Attendance I don't think it would be right to make it mandatory attendance in person, this will not always be possible. This year it clashed with a major classic car event that lots of entrants were booked in for ( the Goodwood Revival), even the club secretary was at Goodwood! Also there is always the chance of a clash or for clashes with individuals personal calendar, eg weddings, funerals, bah mitzvahs etc. It's also unreasonable to expect foreign entrants or those from a large distance away to attend. However in this day and age it should not be beyond the technical capability to make the call available via zoom/skype/teams for remote attendance and also be recorded for those who have a clash. If it was recorded then confirmation that drivers have watched the recording or attended remotely via zoom/skype/teams if they were unable to attend is a good idea. 2. Mechanical Snowflakes I think the entry form should state that each team should have a competent amateur mechanic amongst the team capable of basic repair and maintenance tasks, eg checking for a spark and diagnosing ignition faults, checking for fuel to the carbs/injectors, changing components such as, points, condenser, dizzy cap, fuel pump, water pump, water hoses, Alternator, checking and adjusting points, ignition timing, checking and topping up fluids, tyre pressures, even changing a wheel. Also advice of some you tube videos showing some of those tasks if a team needs to learn some basics before the run.
  23. Breakfast at Seaview was a bit chaotic, not totally the Hotel's fault, more down to the "Fish Woman" (AKA Jimmy Krankie) still keeping Covid restrictions in place limiting capacity. But, breakfast at Lands End was great, so well organised compared to previous years, they really have raised their game. The new control stops at Falls of Shin and Haynes were good, the food kiosk at the falls of Shin was great and the staff there pleasant and friendly. The Gartcosh Social Club was a bit like a visit to Phoenix nights and I was disappointed not to find Max and Paddy on the door and Brian Potter whizzing around in his wheelchair!
