  1. I have not personally dealt with SCParts but was considering buying from them until I did a search on their reputation. They always look like a professional outfit but feedback would suggest otherwise - more recent feedback seems better. http://www.complaintsboard.com/complaints/sc-parts-crawley-england-west-sussex-c71117.html Regards Chris

  3. The GT6 MK3 Spit MK4 are the difficult ones to fit. The MK3 can be pressed in by hand easily in my experience.
  4. CC is the correct prefix for earlier TR6 engines with carburettors. The equivalent injection engine would be CP. Regards Chris
  5. My Modification was a little more agricultural. I refitted the lamp holder to the back plate with some small bolts. I removed the broken brass lamp contacts. I hacksawed through the bulb holder and used an appropriate sized jubilee clip around the holder to clamp the bulb in place. I soldered fly leads onto the two bulb connectors and connected these straight to the the wiring loom with bullet connectors. I polished the original reflector and the whole thing is 100% reliable. I modified a couple of spare bulbs to keep in my spares kit.
  6. Well they are 35A fuses but LUCAS rated 35A. Most modern fuses are rated at the continuous current so a modern 35A fuse may have a "blow" rating of nearly double that.
  7. I am afraid that's how it was when these cars were made. Only 3 35a fuses and some circuits without fuses at all. Some cars had only 1 or 2 fuses. I partly rewired my car when I restored it and got most of the cable and connectors from: http://www.autosparks.co.uk/index.php. Their Website has useful info about cable types and ratings and they can supply a complete loom if that's what you want. I suspect if you strip the loom back it may not be as bad as it first seems - replace the damaged cables and add a few more fuses. I split out the circuits and used a 10 way blade fuse box from the same people. http://www.autosparks.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=1273 Regards Chris
  8. Hi John, How about this. This was the rear spring fitted to my GT6 when purchased. I have never used it so no idea what effect it would have had. regards Chris
  9. Reminds me of my car when got it 14 years ago. Breather valve looks standard to me for a car with strombergs other than the home made bracket. A bit drastic removing the B post roof support. Have fun.
  10. Hi John, I got a new rear rotoflex spring from Chic Doig. This has been on the car for a few years now and is fine. If Canleys can't help a call to Chic may throw some light on things. BTW I think the car is stunning. Hope to see it in the flesh some time. Chris
  11. Whilst not relevant to Johns car the earlier GT6 Mk2/+ had a black headlining up until the facelift models of 69/70 where they reverted to white, added the reclining seats, matt black windscreen frame, combined reversing/number plate light and aluminium 3 spoke steering wheel. Chris
  12. The  A post had a moulded capping made of some kind of plastic. These are still available but often only listed under TR Parts: http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-RR1229M I only purchased the 2 side trims which I had to trim slightly at the ends to fit. the B post is definitely trimmed in head lining material as has been confirmed earlier. Regards Chris
  13. Did a very similar mod when I rebuilt my GT6. I used a 10 way blade fuse box which is mounted on the A post in the passenger foot well. An additional 4 way fuse box by the starter solenoid to feed cooling fan (when fitted) head lights and front driving lights (when Fitted) A relay box is mounted in the front chassis cross member . So no high current switching through column switches and circuits fused at sensible levels. Pics on my website. Chris
  14. Yes they are going in my Royal Blue car. I will stick with the black covers as they are the only ones available with the perforated vinyl. I am hoping that the proper MK2 seats will give me slightly more headroom, The seat cushion certainly looks thinner. I used to drive a MK2 GT6 as a daily driver in the  '80's and never found it uncomfortable. But that was a long time ago and I was a lot younger so probably less worried about comfort.. I have seen some really nicely trimmed seats with piping to match the colour of the car but Royal Blue against black would be a bit of a waste of time.
  15. Hi Jonesy, Very useful knowing a tame trimmer.  :) My MK2 GT6 came with a pair of rough MK3 seats with headrests. As I wanted to finish the car to take to Le Mans I had the MK3 seats re-trimmed by Newton Commercials. They did an excellent job and even trimmed a pair of headrests in perforated vinyl to match the flutes on the seats. I wanted to fit the correct MK2 seats but also wanted headrests so the US high backs seemed like a good compromise. I managed to buy a set from the US and shipped them back to the UK (expensive!). I intend to rebuild the seats with covers and foams from Newtons and will sell the current seats to help fund the project. Pictures below show the Re-upholstered MK3 seat prior to installing in the car and the MK2 high backs before they were shipped to the UK.
  16. GT6 Jonesy. When you redid your mk2 seats did you use Newton Commercial covers or did you find someone to reupholster from scratch? (Or indeed do it yourself). Regards Chris
  17. As Charlie says the High back reclining seats were only fitted to GT6+ but then only to the very last facelift (Satin black windscreen frame and one piece reversing and number plate light and metal spoked TR6 steering wheel).GT6+ in the US. This means that they were only in production/fitted for around a year, making them pretty rare. There is also a high back non reclining seat that was fitted to the non facelift US spec GT6+ . All These seats also have a different sub frame to the gt6 mk3 seats but it is common to other GT6 mk2's and possibly MK1's I was under the impression that the GT6 seats had a perforated vinyl on the centre panels but Piero's seem to have plain vinyl. I wonder if these high back seats were ever fitted to US spitfires as  it was usual for spitfire seats to have plain vinyl and GT6 perforated. Anyway someone is going to have to pay a fair few quid for them. I have a set of these with sub frames but they need completely re-trimming. I imported them from the states which cost a fortune in shipping! Chris
  18. With the help of this man: Peter Weston tel. 07973 374722 email; wilmotlockman@gmail.com The lock man, specialist in Wilmot Breedon locks, keys and handles for classic British cars. I managed to replace all the barrels in my various locks with a matched set. If its a Wilmot Breedon lock I am sure he could help. Chris
  19. Hi Piero I used a 115 degree gear on my MK2 GT6 which has the 2 speed lucas 14w wiper motor and the same windscreen as the other round tail cars. I had a lot of trouble finding the right gear and have several incorrect ones in the garage. Eventually I found the a listing in a TR6 catalogue, the TR6 having the same windscreen and 14W motor as fitted to my GT6. Rgds Chris
  20. I used a set of moulded carpets from Newton and I seem to remember having to make the holes. The seat belt mounting on my car is a captive not welded on to the strengthening plate for the shock mount (rotoflex car). Non rotoflex cars just have a spreader plate or large washer to strengthen the mounting.
  21. I did mine myself and completely agree with Nicks comments. I used some proper automotive high temp adhesive from Woolies for the headlining and any other trim that needed gluing: http://www.woolies-trim.co.uk/p-1263-heat-resistant-adhesive.aspx There are a couple of pics on my website showing the headlining fitting under the restoration heading. Chris
  22. The original Lucas starter is more than adequate. I had GT6's as daily drivers and never had a problem with the starter motor. These starters were used on a vast variety of vehicles including larger engines than the Triumph. It should be noted that there are 2 versions. One has end mounted brushes and the other has side mounted brushes. The side mounted brush set up is superior to the end mounted brush type. The side brush type can be identified by a steel band round the motor case held in place by a screw: https://encrypted-tbn3.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRTxNAAI0TEYoxVUfUMhWlzspQ40xnNlJVJrcs41zC0fl0KMvzwiQ The other downside of the high torque starters is that its gear engages from the opposite side of the ring gear on the gt6 IE so the teeth on the ring gear are not chamfered. This does not seem to cause a problem however. Chris
  23. Haven't got a wiring diagram but this article covers it in some detail: http://www.northcotts.clara.net/tsscdevon/technical/alternator/alternator.html Chris
  24. I originally fitted mine when the body was off and used a couple of ratchet straps. I fitted the eye bolts at each end and then pulled the spring down on to the diff with the straps. I have since fitted the Jigsaw CV conversion which makes the whole process a great deal easier. http://www.gtsix.com/images/rest/chassis/ch8.jpg You can see just how much you need to distort the rotoflex to get the bolt in from the photo Chris
  25. MK2 "facelift seats" were only fitted to the MK2 and then only for around a year - 1970. Just rebuilding a set of highbacks for my MK2. The only suppliers of trim for these seats is Newton. Regards Chris
