After spending most of the weekend looking for my cheque book, a page from it has been carefully inserted in a duly addressed envelope, along with my application to join the exaulted ranks of the 2017 border raiders and now awaits the short trip to the post office on Monday morning. just have to finish the car so i dont have to borrow one again this year. Ive just started looking at just the same idea using stailess steel dairy pipe as i can get it cheap but it had stalled as ive been busy tryng to do compleate 4 project cars at once and keep down a full time job. I was looking at dairy pipe as good mandrel bends are available off the shelf and its good quality stainless i hadent sorted out the manifold flange yet. But i think there a fairly standard patten It will defiantly need a flexible section in around where i fitted the wideband sensor. Your welcome to borrow the exhaust barry photographed as a pattern. Odd the ign module just missing no3 cyl. Have you triple checked the rotor, try pulling the plug lead and testing it with another known good plug earthed to the engine, im thinking if theres too much fuel in the chamber it might cause the plug to miss fire. This would show up on the strobe test as it has done. If it is the dizzy the plug will keep on miss firing. Dan

Hi theo Did you check the plug to see if its firing. Holding the plug against the block {with insulated pliers} I recon its more likely to be the carb now, from what you have said. Dan

I was looking a a set of bmw 7j in gold similar to those thought they would look good.

Oh :B ill have to wave the vernier over a hub I took the 56.1mm off the wheel bore. Dan
-
Heres what ive found Acclaim steel wheels. Are 13x5.5j 4x100 et 42.5 with a 56.1mm bore mk1 mx5s, dihatsu, proton, mk1 bmw mini and 84-04?honds civics {most hondas ive seen dont have a good offset} all have the 56.1mm bore. But vag group and early bmw 3 series have 57.1mm bore and some tasty wheels. By my calcs 6j wheels will want an et {offset} of 39mm To put the inner rim in the same place as the steel wheel so I recon they shouldnt rub and would expect +5mm / -15mm tolerances on thease figure to be ok. 5.5j et 42.5 6j et 39 6.5j et 32.5 7j et 26 Please feel free to point out errors and coment and rember, the reason they call me an expert that's ex as in has been and spurt as in a drip under pressure. Ive been looking in to this for a while but havent had any real experience. If you have fitted different wheels to your acclaim could you post a pic with: Tyre size Wheel size What car they came off Any issues or bolt changes. Thanks dan

Under the bench ive got a mk1 2l vitesse engine and od gearbox I bought fot the vitesse I sold last year, as far as im aware both were runing well when the car failed its mot for serious rust isues. As theres no way to put the od box on a 4 cyl ive got no need for ether and it would be good to have some cash to throw at the special. Whats it worth? Dan

The ports on the head are slightly taller and the studs/mounting tabs are in slightly different places and a bugger to get to seal. But saying that its a much better manifold in that it actualy flows, the rest of the system is a larger bore. But takes the same route through the car. Dan

If you can sort out a decent manifold the 1147 on is appalling, im planning to build my own, I temporarily used a 1300 exhaust but it never sealed properly. Then go for it The solex is pretty crap, every time ive looked for twin su's they were pricey so I used a pair of acclaim carbs, sleaved on to the 1147 inlet manifold stumps. I think there's a spit 1500 cam giving almost 0.100" of extra lift, (same timing) in it but ive not checked yet. I do have a lucas dm2 40755 dizzy whith 16 deg mec and 12.5deg of vac advance. All this and a lot less body work makes for a fun drive in the special.

hi there have you got a Haynes manual? ive always used the carb set up from there. but it doesn't mention the vac pipes. So; there's a mk 1 or 2 variance mk 1's had the vac take off from the passenger side carb instead of the manifold, all have 3 vac pipes on the center, back of the manifold labeled 1,2,3 from the passenger carb ll have to check the car to be sure what goes where but theres 2 pipes that go to the air cleaner 1 to the crank case vent/oil separator and 1 to the vacume valve for the air diverter. and the car runs like crap when you get them the wrong way round. the other is ether to the vac advance or blocked off. the pipes are a pain in the but to get on and off with the air filter in place most acclaims ive seen are still running on )albeit slightly shortened) original pipes. always give the vac pipes a twist with some pliers griped over the vac pipe on the manifold to unstick them if the have been undisturbed for a long while before you attempt to remove them, then, you can check for splits in the ends cut off the perished bit and pop it back on. errrm i dont think ive ever sold a turbo kit. sweet install, i hadnt thought about a remote thermostat. like that dan
-
my appologies no offence intended, I have did give replacing the manifold some thought when my r6 throttle bodies arrived,as i thought they would look good in there, but i couldent see a tidy solution to the thermostat housing & pipe work, so i went for a stock looking setup & only used the 2 outer bodies, (ive also added another cold feed to the air box), it has caused a headache with joining the throttle spindles but i think ive found a solution. i would very much like to see some more pics of how it all goes together.
