Alex wrote: Dont think I'm gonna like being middle aged Andy if this is what it does to you.....I think your biggest problem is a lack of reclining seats ;) I even slept with my roof down.....Matt was driving so it was intentional ;D yep reclining seat would have cancelled out the middle agedness!
  2. Yogi I followed you on the A68 and can confirm your 1300 was doing fine until it got to a hill! where it would slow just enough to cause me to change down - I really needed OD  on 2nd to stay behind you in the power band on one of the hills! I must have looked like a demented yo-yo behind you! It looked to be handling great - the spit has uprated suspension so I managed to hold on to you   ;) it was fun  think we went past you on a dual carriageway section? Back to the debate the car had no problem keeping up -we physically found it harder work  as we did in 04 in the GT6 Come the 10CR in its present format I would always choose the Spit  but slip two full nights of driving in and I would be tempted by the saloon
  3. You cant get any sleep in a spitfire with two fat middle age blokes in it ! the 45mpg was good this year but we were both knackered and will be doing the 2014 event in a saloon!
  4. willows40 wrote:mk1 pi estate failed to finish in 2010, no oil to rocker shaft as screw that hold everything together vanished never to be seen again cheers andy Happened to me once on the m25- fixed it on the hard shoulder -fished it out from down the side of a push rod smothered it in  lock tight put it back in off we went- lucky !
  5. Martin why dont you take your TR7 and your Bro take the 2000?!
  6. As its the 10th anniversary  you HAVE to take a 7  I will will be doing my up most to make sure UGP 840R is on it -otherwise it would be the spitfire again! Agree you don't need 3 up for it anymore -I did all the driving last year no probs
  7. I will be 66 when its my 20th RBRR - hope they haven't banned petrol by then !
  8. 4576 wrote: we thought it could have been fuel there that caused our problem. We filled twice there once the way up and on the way down! -the car felt like it had a blocking fuel filter I could only get it to high revs on at 8/10ths full throttle, if I put it to the floor I couldn't get full rpm and got a bit of a miss fire -reminded me of a fault the 2000 had on a HCR which turned out to be white rubbery goo in the metal fuel filter before the electric pump-I was going to swap the filter at Stirling but Homer wanted to get cracking on his driving stint and get to Tebay in good light -filled up with decent stuff at Morrison s and it ran fine after that -could well have also been a bit of goo that cleared its self this time
  9. Olivia my 5 year old is getting very good at baking Gluten free cakes and I note 3 or 4 crews are now at least wheat free if not full blown Celiac  - Olivia and I would love to provide a venue with some "alternative" cakes! - she once wanted to make marmite and chocolate cake?!!-for crews with "special tummies!" On a more serious note all the stops worked really well for us -six penny half chocolate biscuit worked OK for us as we had been delayed by a faulty overdrive inhibitor switch -hence the gaffer taped switch on the gear lever - (the gear lever switch went open circuit first then I was getting high resistance across the inhibitor switch)-all sorted out at the picnic area on the A303 I stayed on the 303 rather than take the A35 @ Honiton as I wanted to give my self some breathing space time to fix the O/D it meant we also took the A3081 and got to do "zig zag hill" Skiatch -I am sure the fuel was a bit iffy there? ,but we had a good car park brew using the stove and drank that instead! Tebay- Has always been an unofficial stop of ours -shower coffee well lit hassle free forecourt etc and the Chicken curry this year was gluten free! Didcot - works well ,traffic back into London is always pants and would be from anywhere that time of day, the only way around this would be to move the finish point to a country pub in the sticks Lands end worked really well for us
  10. 06064 wrote:The twisty bits of Wales!!... on the road to Sugar Loaf instead of following the roadbook our shatnav suggested a right turn would be a in order at one of the roundabouts, Dale's also decided it was the way to go .... what a belter that turned out to be !!! Yep ours did the same !
  11. 6780 wrote:As an RBRR virgin the whole thing was a high for me.    But,like Tim, the best driving moment was the blast from Tebay to Gledrid,-the section was driven at pace but always imho   with consideration and sense toward other road users and fellow RBRRs. I never realised Heralds were so quick until i came accross Dales!,-must be a pretty special engine under the hood    One of the big +s for me is that CT members are real enthusiasts for the Triumph marque and are prepared to drive them hard and at the risk of getting them dirty. The reality is that within other clubs the emphasis is more on polishing than out and out driving,-i know what i enjoy most..,   cheers,     Laurence,-entry 63    Team shed was right with you as well!
  12. I was having a hot shower! :)-and would have taken up the pie offer if they had been wheat and gluten free, :-/ cheers

  15. 796 wrote:Went to Tebay  to nosey aboot, so too did a few others. most of the crws got there,  some were having trouble with fuel probs seems to be fuel in Scotchlandshire, or had Mr J Mc Jim been filling the tanks with Lambrini!! the crew of the 2.5 had no heater, so were a bit frozen the Geordie Ladds, having trouble with the TRs fuel hope they sorted it, and got better as they put new fuel in. Met Bill Goody, gave him a present, but think he was more intrested in looking for  BEER,!!! nice to meet you Bill, hope you no got any symptoms frae the present. And a very great full thankee to the Scrapmans crew , and Monsignoir Velo Rosso, for the delivery of what I thoought was 1 diff, but turned oot to be two, which had winged its way all the way frae Colchester,to Tebay, thru the CT Express. And Colins car is really unmissable in the dark, as he got a antanna, bigger than Blackpool tower, and more lit up than it too. ;) ;) good to see so many ..ole bangers.. getting well used, well done , and hope you all make it back ok Markus I hear you slipped Homer a pie - which I smelt several times through Wales!
  16. 3020 wrote:car 27 nearly ready..engine running much better now...road test tomorow a m ...no bonnet no headlights and wrong diff in ..oh and no drivers wiper ..but it'll be fine by the tme they leave for the start dont worry about the diff as long as the overdrive is working!
